New 'cruting strategy, recruit players who, regardless of talent,  are familiar with and have already been exposed to the "doghouse".

No way that fails. No. Way.

Has been very aggravating to follow Smart playing for a team named Marcus.

Yeah, I thought he was averaging like 70 points a game for a while.

Updates from a couple recent games for Diaz. Just after Christmas, Diaz' Hialeah Lakes team took on Grandview Prep(also from S. Fla) which features 6'9" 4* in class of '12 Ismaila Dauda, who's committed to Miami. Grandview got the W 74-62, but Diaz showed well scoring 27 pts.

Then, last night Diaz posted a triple double in his team's victory over Hialeah Gardens. He put up 30 pts, 16 boards, and 12 blocks.

(I found this nugget about his last game on the ESPN ticker, which is tough to link, but if you want to check it out, go there)

That's the kind of comparison I was hoping to judge. Don't think JO ever put up those kinds of number (although fully possible he could have had double digit blocks and rebounds}.

You would actually believe that JO and Diaz are same ethnicity.

Bossi with pretty good writeup on KS prospects after watching several of them this past week. Along with the obvious, Gavin Thurman from Wichita SE is the only other prospect I've seen us mentioned in connection included in this report. Free.

future ksu headline after a win:  Touched by an Angel:  KSU destroys Savanah State behind Angel's 20 points and 10 assists

Gipson: 8 points, 6 rebounds, 4 fouls.  Also, the article noted that last year against the same team, he missed a FT that could have won the game.  So he's definitely got the "fit" that frank wants.

For those planning to tune in, watch Angel's every move, get the scoop, but don't forget about Haughton, 6'8"-6'9" ish, #44 for Krop, can't miss him.

Watched Spradling last night and he had a quiet 31 points against a shitty but inspired Lawrence team.  SMS runs no offense.  They spread the floor, let Will penetrate, kick, and curl/rebound.  They should have lost the game. Will has a great stroke.  This is just my opinion but I see him being a spot up shooter type like Reed/Morningstar without their defensive ability.  He won't be able to stay in front of most D1 PGs.  He has to put on about 15 to 20 lbs of muscle and turn into a driveway shooter.  That's going to be his role if I had to guess at this point.  He isn't quick enough to create his own shot.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was a perpetual bench player ala C Merrs...

went back through the thread and found this.  spot on eval bigwillie.  this had to be what the staff saw too, guess thats what they wanted.

Caught this game starting halfway thru the 2nd qtr. Krop got a big win over nationally ranked Miller Grove. It is important to note that Krop is a very good and deep team, so while Rodriguez appeared to be their best player, it was not essential for him to be on the floor in order for his team to succeed. I didn't see him play in the 1st and I believe he played around 10-11 mins in 2nd. Knocked a couple treys off catch and shoot situations, had 1 one pretty good take and finish in a halfcourt set. Wouldn't say he has a great handle, but appeared he had a decent one, did struggle a bit with decision-making, ie forcing passes, dribbling into trouble. By my count he had 12 pts in the 2nd half, a couple steals where he showed good anticipation, 2-3 FT's, at least 4 TO's(bear in mind, this was against a high-level team, so any mistakes made would be magnified.

Honestly, Meyer's and Bossi's take on him from the City of Palms appeared to be pretty accurate. Moral of the story? He looks like a solid prospect but DON'T EXPECT MIRACLES, especially early.

the game is archived, or at least still viewable at the link mentioned.

it's amazing any hs players develop into big 12 players.  they're all so bad.

NORCROSS — Miller Grove won’t have fond memories of its trip to the Marriott Invitational. It was where the previously unbeaten Wolverines’ hopes of finishing No. 1 in the nation died.

Dr. Krop of Miami led from the start and was up by 16 midway through the fourth quarter before securing a 70-63 victory in Saturday’s first game before a near-capacity crowd at Norcross High School.

Dr. Krop (20-2) came in ranked No. 24 by ESPN Rise, while Miller Grove was No. 3 in that poll and No. 4 in the USA Today rankings. But the Florida school was able to withstand Miller Grove’s superiority inside with its superb guard play.

Angel Rodriguez, who is going to Kansas State, had 16 points, seven steals and three assists, while Cody Mann had 16 points and five assists. Dr. Krop also got 16 points off the bench from Bryan Delaney.

Tony Parker had 19 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots for Miller Grove (16-1). But nine of his points came in the first quarter and the 6-foot-9 junior was just 5-for-10 from the foul line.

Dr. Krop jumped ahead 7-1 and then, after the defending Class AAAA state champs closed to 16-13 at the end of the opening quarter, built as much as a 15-point lead in the second quarter before the Wolverines cut the deficit back to 37-27 at halftime.

Parker had 11 points and 10 rebounds in the first half, but Miller Grove was 2-for-9 at the foul line. Mann had 10 points and Delaney scored nine.

Rodriguez had seven points in the third quarter and Dr. Krop went into the final quarter up 52-34. The lead was 60-44 with 5:40 remaining before Miller Grove mounted a rally to close to 66-60 with 1:04 left. Rodriguez iced the win on a pair of foul shots with 24.7 seconds remaining.

Miller Grove has a victory over defending Class AAAAA state champ Milton and won the Beach Ball Classic after Christmas
