Another Rodriguez report from City of Palms, this time from Scout:

"Angel Rodriguez, PG, Dr. Krop – In a close contest this 5-foot-10 lead guard headed to Kansas State proved to be the difference, scoring a team high 24 points on 8-for-18 shooting. He can get a bit wild at times, but he certainly knows how to use his body when he attacks the basket and he has a good shot out to the three-point stripe."

Also included in this update from Saturday's games is an eval and school list for Rodriguez's teammate, class of '12 PF-C prospect Tyrone Haughton, this is the 1st time I've seen KSU listed as a school recruiting him. Other schools on his list include Florida, Louisville, West Virginia, and Alabama.

"Tyrone Haughton, PF, Dr. Krop – An intriguing 6-foot-8, possibly 6-foot-9 post prospect, Haughton is an active, live body on both the offensive and defensive end. He has a long set of arms, is a pretty good athlete and showed a nice set of hands. He took a handful of drop off passes and turned them into dunks. Going forward he’ll need to continue to develop his post moves, but he’s a got a bright future and his best basketball days are ahead of him."

KC area Hyvee Shootout recap from Rivals and Bossi. Writeup features Ellis and a few other prospects we've been mentioned in connection with in the past, namely Parker ('12), Peterson('13), and Joregenson('13).

Ty Haughton's put back dunk at the buzzer does in Memphis Melrose. Haughton hasn't disappointed. Raw but for a JR, he's huge w/ athleticism.

ar-t, haughton and krop beat melrose and adonis thomas.  they play tomorrow for the consolation bracket championship at 12:20.

couldn't find any comments on ar-t's play yet.  melrose was the preseason #1 hs team, although they lost convincingly to oak hill a little bit ago, and to whitney young in the 1st round of this tourney.

Not really.  His phone or whatever capitalizes the word it thinks begins a sentence (Krop after the period in "dr."), regardless of whether it's actually a new sentence or not.

I should note, I made my post before seeing that Irregardless II had erupted in another thread.

Krop falls to Orlando Christian Prep 64-56
Rodriguez 20 pts, 9 ast, 8 rebs, 8 TO's - Possible quad double in the future?
Haughton 12 and 7

Krop finishes COP with 2-2 record, probably a little disappointing given their national ranking entering the tourney, but hey it was good to get more exposure for Rodriguez and we now know we're recruiting Haughton.

Gipson is putting up between 14 and 20 most games.   He's usually their leading scorer or 2nd leading scorer.   :blank:

Dude on GPC reports Frank sighting at Whataburger HS tourney in Dallas area. Gipson's Cedar Hill team and Marcus Smart's Flower Mound Marcus team are participating in the event.

Gip had 14 in Cedar Hill victory yesterday and went for 22 in blowout win today.

As far as I can tell, no. The best shot was Rodriguez's Krop team advancing far in the City of Palms tourney, but they fell short. So unless 1 of our signees/commits gets selected to play in 1 of those high-profile postseason all-star games, which doesn't appear likely right now, probably no national TV exposure.

Linked below is ESPN's calendar of televised HS games this year.

Wow, Frank is actually recruiting a top 50 player?

Don't forget about Ellis, Cauley, and Malik Price-Martin from '13. We'll see how long we can stay in the hunt for any/all of those guys.

Yep, as are Cauley and Smart. Cam Ridley from Houston area is another 5*/consensus Top 10 kid from that class we've been named as recruiting but he's probably a longshot at best.

UW have we officially been out of the running for torian graham (12) for awhile now? Obviously the DC assault pipeline is alive and flowing.

I think it's safe to say we're out of the running for Graham now, haven't seen him mention us since last summer, of course that's right about when he really blew up. He had a couple updates from the recent DC hoops festival where he played and did not mention the KSU Cats. So yeah, I think it's pretty clear that he's no longer an option for us.

Is DC dead for us now?  Seems kinda like it is.

DCA has 3 known(to me at least, ha!) high-major prospects in the Class of '13, Nate Britt, Kris Jenkins, and Rayjay Bullock, none of whom are mentioning KSU as even a preliminary school of interest.

So to answer your question, I tried to hold out hope as long as I could, but man I think it's done, dead as a doornail.

TX, FL, and KC(maybe), here we come.   :ksu:

From the Whataburger tourney, Smart's Flower Mound Marcus team got a W earlier today and that sets them up for a semifinal matchup tonight at 8 against Gipson's Cedar Hill squad. Notes from ESPN blog pasted and linked below:

"No. 1 Flower Mound Marcus 71, Houston Wheatley 62

Marcus had four scorers in double digits, led by big man Nick Banyard with 17. Phillip Forte followed Banyard with 16 points. A.J. Luckey and Marcus Smart came next with 15 and 14, respectively.
Wheatley's Randy Lewis led all scorers with 26 points.
The game was a track meet, especially in the second quarter when Wheatley switched to a zone full-court press. The defensive switch allowed for 23 Marcus points in the second quarter, most off the fast break.

Cedar Hill 78, Trinity Catholic (Ky.) 35

The game's leading scorer was Cedar Hill's Thomas Gipson (22), whose last basket came on a thundering dunk on a drive down the middle.
Gipson was followed by Zeldric King with 13 points. Trinity's leading scorer, Nathan Dieudonne, only had eight points."

Has been very aggravating to follow Smart playing for a team named Marcus.

The Marcus crew handles Cedar Hill, 59-43, from the ESPN blog also linked above:

"No. 1 Flower Mound Marcus 59, No. 4 Cedar Hill 43

Marcus Smart and Phillip Forte led scoring for Marcus, both with 16 points.
Devonte Green was the only Cedar Hill player with double digit scoring, finishing with 14 points.
The entire game was a defensive struggle, with only a combined 18 points from both teams in the first quarter. Cedar Hill was blanked for a good portion of the opening frame.
Both teams remained even throughout the course of the game until Marcus pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Cedar Hill 22-15. "

Sounds like Gip is already getting some "tough love", I hope he can get used to it.

"Cedar Hill (16-2), No. 4 in the coaches 5A state rankings, played without Kansas State signee Thomas Gipson, who sat out on a coach's decision. "
