Headed for our long anticipated trip to Maine on Friday. Let's say this is less than ideal for a summer trip.

 :curse: :curse: :curse:

Well I mumped up and tried to respond to the above post from my phone but deleted it instead and can’t figure out how to fix it so apologies MIR. BUT, we had similar weather (maybe a few degrees warmer) and loved every minute of it. To come back to this hellscape temperature/humidity was awful. Have a blast bro.

I spent 13 summers in New England, and yes Maine can get cold but it was never like that in late July/early August. It will be fine, we'll just cut the beach time.

The warm nights? Those temperatures are cold a.f. even for Maine. This time of year it's in the 80s in the day and pretty cool at night. It's going to be about 5-7 degrees cooler in Bar Harbor as well. I wasn't prepared to have to wear pants at the beach. Super duper first world problems.

I'm going to Vegas next weekend for a group bday trip and they just reinstated masks and it's kinda bumming me out. If it was just a trip for myself I'd cancel but since it's a group trip I'll just deal with it. I don't care about wearing one at the grocery store or whatever but I'm not trying to vacation like that, especially a place like Vegas. Ugh.

On the bright side my room has gone down $400.

just hold a beer or smoke a cig and no one will ever make you wear a mask anywhere but like a grocery store (and even then they won't give a eff)

I was in Vegas in April during "masks outside too" times and this wasn't flying with a lot of pit bosses / security.  Some even had signs about walking around smoking assumingly to combat this.  Pit bosses weren't having the "I've got a drink in my hand" game.  You had to put that baby on between sips.

Going back this weekend, at least won't have to wear them at my pool cabana which was the dumbest.  Also looking forward to just masks at the tables not sneeze guards too.

s7 it's not that bad.  You'll have fun.

that's great, can we talk about eating on planes though? His sammich looked fine, but I think I am against. It makes me nauseous when someone opens up their gross smelly meal right at 10k feet. Maybe only cold items that don't smell should be allowed?

One time at IAH I brought barbecue on a flight and caught the guy sitting next to me fire off a text complaining about it. (Probably a militant Berkeley vegan). I was short on time and needed food!

haha. I never do it because I think its kind of gross to eat on a plane. I also think its kind of weird. A while back, the family next to me waited until the ding and then started passing around burgers and fries that they obviously waited to eat until they got in the air. The fries looked all gross and cold and I couldn't figure out why they didn't just eat them before. Guess, they had a plan and stuck to it.

I mean from SF it seems like about every flight I take is at least four hours long so I generally kinda need to eat something.

Usually my go to is a packaged Cobb salad. Hot food sucks because you can get stuck on the tarmac and stuff and it gets stale but I made an exception for barbecue.

I only eat in biz/first when they serve it but my kids for sure pound tons of food on planes. Like, my 8 year old has 100+ segments (<- incred dad brag) on him and has eaten something on probably 80% of them. It's always just pre-packaged stuff though.

I understand that there are cases where bringing food on the plane is unavoidable but it really does stink up the whole place.

It bothers me more when someone in my row gets a tomato juice to drink though, the smell makes me on the verge of barfing for the entire flight. It's horrible.

It's not unavoidable to not bring smelly food on a plane.  Although I don't think I've ever smelled tomato juice unless I was the one drinking it.

Complaining about other people’s food smells on a plane is whiny and childish

There are certain rules of the sky, guy. Like the middle seat gets both armrests. One of them is to not be overly odorous or bring overly odorous materials on board. I don't mind if someone is munching on a turkey wrap or something, but ever noticed how there are no Indian restaurants in airports? I would say the person breaking the social contract is being childish/selfish, not the other way around.

i always try to avoid eating on the plane, but sometimes you have a 6AM flight with a 40 minute layover, and if you don't eat on the plane it's going to be like 2pm before you have your first calories! however in this scenario, you only have time for a cold sandwich or something that isn't that smelly.

if you have time to wait in line for hot smelly food you probably have time to eat it before boarding
