I flew SW this past weekend and it was as pleasant as it always is(v good)

samesies

Idk why people hate on it, like what's not to like?  Open seating, nice flight attendants, free checked bags, if you happen to sit in the back you have more than 6" of legroom.

Trying too hard to be edgy IMHO

I love flying SW with kids. it's the best family airline for domestic travel imo. I'm not springing for my herd of children to sit in the front of the bus so I may as well fly SW.

I'm flying my entire jumbo family on Frontier in December. I haven't flown Frontier for like 2 years. I got the package deal where you get 6" more leg room and ability to select our seats, free cancellations and changes, free checked and carry on baggage, some other crap. it wasn't very expensive. 4 seats RT to Disneyworld was like $1,300. I will report back on how travelling with shitloads of kids compares between Frontier and SW.

Also, Frontier is getting TSA pre in like August.

I would probably hate SW if I was always flying business but after a ton of trips this year on tiny shitty United planes that don't even have economy plus, SW feels like a goddam luxury

What's the accepted mantra on flying SW with two kids?  Stick mommy and two kids in one row and then daddy across the aisle?  Split two and two?  Maybe daddy way far away pretending his family isn't on the plane?

depends on your car seat situation. if you have your kids in a car seat they have to sit in a window. so if you have two in car seats you're going two and two with strangers in the aisle seats. our three year old will fly for the first time without one this year so we will do the baby in the window in a car seat, mrs. dave, 3 year old, me across the isle. I'll probably switch with mrs. dave from time to time.

never read this thread.  I have to be in St. Louis for the next week, I've been to the Arch, there aren't any Cardinal games, been to AB and I can't find any live music on the 'net.  Any suggestions of cool things to see or places to eat would be appreciated.

I have always checked car seats, never flown with them.   :dunno:

we always fly with them, never use them on the way to the airport or after we get there. we have a dedicated airplane car seat. the car service we use has their own already installed for lil sd. while you don't have to have your toddlers in car seats while flying we choose to.

This next flight will be the first time lil sd has flown without being in a car seat. we've got a CARES system for him. admittedly we (mrs dave) is overly worried about turbulence with our kids on travel stuff. will report on effectiveness of the CARES thing if the airplane is in a crash but we somehow don't all die but could have suffered whiplash or some crap.

and the really ridiculous thing is the CARES thing is only good up to 44 lbs and lil sd is already like 38 lbs so he'll probably only use it like twice. maybe lil female sd will use it but they will probably have some other expensive piece of garbage by then that I'm sure we'll buy.

if it was up to mrs. dave there would be child protective services people at all airports so you could call a hotline and have all lap babies repossessed at the gate.

So did you always buy (redeem miles for) an extra ticket when they were infants so that you could put them in a car seat?

yes. lil sd has flown 6 RTs at 3 years old and always had his own ticket. lil female sd is going to fly a few times before she's 1 and will have her own ticketed seat.

My kid would probably flip crap if I tried to make him sit in a car seat.  At 4 months he was lap baby and at 22 months he was ticketed and just sat his happy ass in his seat.  "You wanna be a big boy?"  "Yes big boy."  "Okay then you sit like mommy and daddy."  Then I grabbed the safety flier thing and told him the story of how the airplane went swimming and people rode the slide down the airplane and were in a boat in the water.

yeah, I'd be fine with that arrangement.

Flying with 3 kids is a real damn treat.  Oldest LSOC has flown all over the country, she now knows sleeping is the best way to get from MCI to LAX and when she gets there we will go straight to Manhattan beach for her to wig out and burn off some steam.  That is the best part for her.

Toddler stone rides in the CARES thing sd uses and infant stone the full ass car seat.  we go 2 kids and mrs. stone in the aisle then me aisle with oldest stone in middle.  I bribe her like a south american politician to be cool

as a big guy, the seating process is more stressful than i like when i am anything after b15 or so.

I mean I'm 6'4" 280 so I know how you feel but I always make sure I get an isle seat whenever I fly

oh well right on then. i just like the ability to pick an aisle seat or exit row (or the occasional upgrade) when i'm flying on delta.

the cheapness of southwest and # of directs they have out of MCI make them basically the only thing i fly for personal travel though.

I think you have to be an insane person to cite open seating as a SW advantage. Every other airline you pick your seat when you buy the ticket. Checking in 24 hrs before flight to make sure you're not stuck in the middle, gmafb

The unifying factor with the browns that hate sw is they seem to only be b and c boarding.
