Got Hep A, typhoid, Yellow fever, and malaria pills prior to Peru and the Amazon. Didn't get any of those things so SUCCESS!

I would lean to soft but there are pros and cons:

The soft one I have and in the past has snagged and got holes in the front pocket. The new travelpro I have hasn't been as bad.... Just seems the hardside wouldn't have any of that problem and I don't see much downside.

the downside most frequently mentioned in that thread I linked is that they can get crushed and crack if they aren't completely full. Also soft ones are expandable. I don't know if there's a difference in price.

a good hard side is crush/crack proof. I would like a 21" rimowa aluminum hardside because I don't like stuffing my travel pro full and then having to shoe horn it into the overhead bin if it's all poofed out in the middle. then the pockets and zippers and stuff catch on the edges as well. with an aluminum it would just slide in or out if it fits.

downside (for me) is it's that's expensive (obvs). Also he just wants one to be checked.

yeah, I was just posting what I want. I don't care about my checked bags. I have a couple travel pro crew 10s of large (26") and jumbo large (29") sizes that are fine. other than the jumbo one being tough to fill both full and below 50 lbs...diapers help with this though

I wish I had bought two 26" instead of one of each. 26" is a good checked bag size imo. 29" is too big.

You should have plenty of room for souvenirs after you use up some of the diapers/food/drugs.

Yeah for checked I don't really GAF so just looking for the longest lasting soft vs. hard. Soft hasn't been very great for me.

bag and baggage in hawthorn plaza has a good trade in deal.
