So all you Missorians know that starting at some point in 2016 you won't be able to fly without a passport, right?  Several other states as well...

That article doesn't mention Missouri as one of states affected by the new law.

it doesn't but they are among the affected states. There is actually a law in several of the states that expressly prohibits the terms of compliance.   http://www.newstribune.com/news/2013/jun/26/mo-official-testifies-about-real-id-compliance/

i lost my wallet in vegas this year and got home without any form of ID. took about 10 extra minutes of answering questions. (i am white tho)

yeah, you don't have to have photo ID to fly. people think you do, but nope. nope at all.

Aren't you supposed to have some form of ID? Why do I always show them my DL or passport then?

currently they can attempt to validate your identity through other means.   But once the REAL ID law takes effect in 2016 you will need a REAL ID compliant government issued ID to clear airport security.

So it is not actually the states that say you have to have a passport, it is that they don't want their DL's to meet whatever criteria the Real ID thing is.....Why do they not want to comply with whatever that criteria is?

What about when you check in at the desk and check a bag? They want to see your ID so they know that you are really the person on the ticket checking a bag. You can just say "No thank you" when they ask to see your ID?

I think it varies, but a lot of it seems to do with privacy rights (I know right, who would think the government wouldn't need your vital imformation?)   Here's a breakdown state by state.   Missouri is dead set against complying.   http://object.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/pubs/pdf/pa749_web_1.pdf

you can, but you will get delayed and they can deny boarding.   My buddy lost his ID when we went to CA last year.   He had to be hand-walked through security and get interviewed and all.    Another time a friend left his at home, and was able to use a Sam's Club card to get on the plane, but was told he better get a photocopy of his ID for the trip home, so his wife faxed him one.

I would show them the ID if you have it and explain why you don't if you don't have it. you'll be fine normally (though it will be a bigger PITA than usual)

According to that article the MO legislature made a law saying they won't comply but then the DMV basically did all the updates required to comply anyway.

well what happens is you tell the low/medium ID checker guy that your wallet was stolen (by your drunk in vegas alter ego apparently) and then he/she turns around with his/her hand in the air and looks for a manager. now the manager is a really busy guy with like a million things to do and he really does not GAF about you, so when he finally comes over he is like OK are you sure you can't find anything with your name on it at all anywhere because it would be a lot easier if you could. and you're like nope everything is gone. then he's like *sigh* "alright come over here and wait here for a sec, i have to call the east coast." i don't know what that means exactly but he is on the phone asking you questions like "name a street you have lived on. name a car that has been registered under your name. name your father's middle name." etc, and he repeats your answers into the phone to the "east coast". then after like 5 of those they give your luggage an extra once-over and that's it.

well, interesting

What should I do in Indianapolis tomorrow while my girlfriend is doing bridesmaid stuff all day?
Downtown area is loaded with brewpubs.

Could drink in a brewery. I enjoyed my evening here.

Black Acre Brewing Co.
