i saw a family of 4 walking around Paris, and the parents were each carrying a sleeping child and it looked miserable

my kids are old enough to not be like that.

mich if your kids are old enough to ride a bicycle, Paris is BITB for renting bikes and going everywhere for pretty much free.
mich if your kids are good at going to sleep early, Paris is BITB at having quality wine for sale everywhere for like $4

this is a very good tip. do they have one of those bike share things, or do you just rent a bike?

I would think a euro trip would kind of be lost on a kid until like 12/13? Maybe I'm wrong

there are Velib stations everywhere. you have to use a CC to reserve a bike and they put a 150 euro temporary charge on it. it's only 1.80 euro for a whole day. also it's free if you return the bike to another station within 30 mins (you can get most places within 30 mins in central Paris).

We've done DC museums a couple times and enjoy spending long days in SF with pretty good results

You seem pretty committed to London/Paris and that makes sense logistically, but I think you would have more fun just going to Barcelona or doing Madrid-Barcelona or Barcelona-Nice/Monaco

In London-

Do the tower of London tour, expensive but worth it.
DON'T do one of those garbage black cab or double decker tours
DO use the underground as it is super easy
DO go to picadilly circus and get pooped on by a pigeon
DO go to Harrod's
DO go to Westminster and the Royal grounds
DO go to the British Museum

If I can convince you to go to Barcelona I will give recommendos for that

at first, each time i tried to plan ahead where i would drop the bike off, but that was kind of stupid because the stations are literally everywhere

I would probably prefer Barcelona but this really isn't about me and yeah logistics make Paris and London really easy. I've heard good things about the double decker bus tours in NY and SF and maybe London (never done one). touristy, but crap, you're a tourist.

A few years ago I spent eight days over Christmas in the South of France. Beautiful country. Started in Paris and moved down after one day there.

Don't ride the Eye, it sucks and is expensive. Also, IMO the British Museum kind of sucks - if you enjoy WWII history the Churchill Warrooms are much better.
