She thinks it would be fun.  I am skeptical though.

Not sure if you noticed but we just discussed an LA to SF drive and it is pretty awesome if you take the 1 from LA to Monterey (or even all the way to Pacifica).

Hearst Castle is an option. 17 mile drive/pebble beach. Monterey aquarium. Random Big Sur hiking. Depends on what you like to do.

put a mustache on your rental car. try to blend with the locals. don't say things like frisco or san fran it will make you seem douchey and like you are trying to hard.. definitely not like a true san francisco resident.

I like hiking!

I read the SF things thread regularly so I feel like I'm prepared for the culture shock.  I'll just make an anti-gentrification sign and carry it with me everywhere.

Done all the above. Would recommend staying at least one night in the town of Carmel

You can just go to Oklahoma for that.

Which island?

Oahu. I figure that i'll see the Pearl Harbor stuff for sure but other than that and maybe taking a tour of the Jurassic Park and Lost sets, i'm pretty stumped on what else to do. I've just never been there or even researched what's cool to do down there.

go to the north shore and watch the surfers and visit Haleiwa Town. prepare for the biggest cluster eff of a traffic jam in human existence every weekday morning on the H1. skip that stupid movie set crap.

Noted. All good things, so keep them coming! Luckily i'll have a driver and car service while i'm down there so i'm going to just bring my tablet and chill out while getting paid to ride from place to place.  :kstategrad:

What is Haleiwa Town all about? I vaguely remember someone talking about that but I can't remember what they were saying about it...

it's just a chill little surfer town

will i survive a megabus trip from jacksonville to NYC? it would be broken up by three overnight stops. i'm trying to see people in palm beach, atlanta, raleigh, DC, and NYC in a span of two weeks. i'd like to fly into florida and then bus it up to NYC.

sounds like a nightmare and less fun than just using a rental car. probably infinitely less expensive tho
