Ice fishing is big up here (Wisconsin), but I've never gone.

Funny story, it seems like all winter long there's a story each week about an ice-fisherman's truck falling through the ice.

So, a tip from the uninitiated, don't park your car on the ice! (I think people use them to pull their shanties (sp?) out there)

We are staying in a house that is right on the lake so no problem there.
Apparently you can see 30 feet down into the water and watch fish consider your bait. WOW

I did not get to fly out of Chicago today, despite being at the airport for ten hours and spending 2 of those hours in an airplane :dubious: :curse:

True story: SB has been ice fishing 4 times in Minnesota and never caught one fish. It's all an excuse to binge like crazy in a weird hut on a frozen lake with 16 of your friends. If you do it right you will catch zero fish.

Serious question: How do binging ice fishermen stay warm?

It sounds so, so cold. And doesn't having a lot of alcohol in your blood stream make it more likely that you'll freeze to death? Don't freeze to death, mocat.

Mocat how was your trip to Guetemala?  Sorry I never posted any elite tips from BF Sis.  I guess she didn't see my message and replied like a month ago.   :blank: I told her don't worry about it.

I am familiar with 6 a.m. late November tailgating. It usually involves a lot of cuddling to maintain body heat. So that's how the ice fisherman do it. Got it.

Sounds a lot like the Yucatán Peninsula too. It's a lot better IRL than the hygiene situation makes it sound.

Mocat, do they make cochinita (or pollo) pibil in Guatemala? If so, I'm super jealous you got to go - if you ate some. Some of the best pork you'll ever taste.   :lick:

Are there hammock hooks on the walls of people's homes?
I'm in it purely for the entertainment value.

i did not have pibil, and i was up in the mountains so it is not quite tropical enough up there for hammocks i think

Most ice fishing is done in heated huts like in that one episode of Home Improvement.

Mocat. IFFFF you get the right group of people and enough booze and don't actually care about catching fish, you are about to have the time of your life. We did it four years straight it was such a blast.

staying at the Andaz Napa for mrs. dave's bday this summer and taking one day to go to lagunitas and russian river and other beer places on the sonoma side of the hills. pretty excited.

more of a credit card thread alert but could be helpful here: make sure and book your Hyatt stays for the next year before the 7th because the redemption levels go up by about 30% then (depending on what level you are booking).
