FDR Truthers
« on: May 02, 2011, 08:11:43 PM »
Was watching some conspiracy theory marathon on the History Channel Sunday.  I was generally laughing at all these "professors" and other weirdos, their evidence of various conspiracies and what not, when one came on I'd never heard.

People believe that FDR and the Military knew that Japan was going to bomb Pearl Harbor and did nothing about it because FDR et al. wanted to attack Germany but the popular sentiment was against it.

Has anyone ever heard of this before?  I mean FDR was an evil man, but this theory defies all logic and in was actually very analogous to the 9/11 truther nonsense.

Looking forward to the one on Bin Laden that's sure to air in the next couple years.  Why did they bury him at sea???

Some people believed that because of the Japanese attacked the USS Panay which was sent to China to sail up the Yungtze River in 1937 to rescue Americans after a battle between Chinese Forces and Japan, there shouldn't have been any doubts.   The Japanese claimed it was mistake, but the U.S. said the ship was covered in American flags.

The commander at Pearl Harbor testified at the Pearl Harbor hearings that he was purposely being confused by Washington in terms of orders etc. etc.  Other folks point to the economic war FDR had launched against Japan, and that he had to know that would ultimately lead to war.

In the show, there was a memo about what would force Japan to declare war on the US.  One of the bullet points was trade embargo.  There was also something about subs near Japan, and one other thing I can't remember.  Purportedly we did all three right after the memo was written.

It still didn't make a helluva lot of sense.

In addition, Churchill supposedly had information about an imminent Jap attack but sat on it knowing it would bring the U.S. into their war against Germany and for their interests in south Asia and the Pacific.

1. FDR let Pearl Harbor happen and we join WW2
2. Gulf of Tonken is made up by the government and we start the Vietnam fiasco
3. 9/11 allowed to happen and we are at war yet again.
4. Profit

Why do we always have to have a boogie man?

The secret bombing of Cambodia was certainly one of the least covered, yet greatest atrocities the US has ever committed.   Those actions help sweep the Khmer Rouge into power.

Read this book because of its religious themes (i.e. Evolution and Marxism is out to destroy Christianity), but this might give you your fix.  It is actually coherent.  Extremely (censored apparently), but coherent.

I studied this a few years ago.  I don't remember the exact details/evidence, but remember it being a pretty compelling argument and one with which I ultimately agreed.
