with the likes of Jason Sehorn of commentators that hate us

From Tramaine Thompson's Twitter : Well I'm officially unfollowing @stephenasmith for his k state comments. Blow meh

After seeing that I checked out the First Take podcast from today and around the hour and 15 minute mark I found what Tramaine was talking about.

"Really guys, we're talking about the Heisman here. He may be
the best player on his team, but that's because their players aren't any good.
So, if they're not that good, and you are, what do you want…a cookie? You're
better than the rest of your teammates (calls the team "scrubs")… If I'm
surrounded by mediocre players, but I'm not mediocre….of course I'll look like
a superstar. You look at Geno Smith, that's a bad man. You look at Braxton
Miller, that's a bad man and the way he balls … He's surrounded by talent. To
me, if you stand out and you're surrounded by talent, that speaks more to me than
somebody that's a big fish in a little pond. Here's the deal, Collin Klein is
alright. I've been zeroed in on Miller and Smith. To me it's a two horse race" - Stephen A. Smith

Blow it up and post it on the wall for every player to see.  Still no respect, and as the team keeps sawing wood the media keeps throwing it on the fire!  Stay hungry CATS!!!

Thank you Stephen A. Smith...

Thank you, thank you, thank you...

And thank you to all the national pundits that have trashed us this week

And thank you local media that are jumping at every chance to make sure it's known even if we run the table we're not making the national championship game...you think radio/newspaper pundits in Oklahoma or dreaming up of ways OU WON'T make the national championship game? Only in Kansas City...where even our own celebrated alumni keep their allegiances in the shadows out of shame do the "local" scribes still bash K-State...I heard today that an unbeaten Notre Dame would go over an unbeaten KSU because of who Notre Dame played - "They had to go to OU"

I'm dead serious...everyone in the world has forgotten we beat OU...maybe we need more t-Shirts.

Thank you Dennis Dodd for calling into The Border Patrol this morning, unprompted and unsolicited, to make sure it was known that there's no way K-State would make the championship game over a one loss SEC team. I mean seriously...he's at home, listening, cleaning up his breakfast dishes when he hears the guys questioning if it would it be possible and he decides to call to make sure any and all hope is destroyed...who does that?

I thought it impossible for these kids to have a chip on their shoulder after a #4 BCS ranking...

I was wrong...couldn't be more wrong...

This team will be dialed in and pissed off - NO ONE thinks they deserve to be there...time to show they do...

This actually might make good bulletin board material.

However as fans we need to just let it roll off our backs as frustrating as that is.  You really have to wonder though if any of these A#s Clowns have ever watched K-State play.  Contrast that to Charles Davis and Gus Johnson, who have actually called one of our games and "gush" over CK and the other talent on this team.  I'm sure GS will get lots of kudos from these announcers on Saturday, but we will get our fair share for the entire team.

Keep in mind that Stephen A Smith couldn't probably handle the reality of another Tebow-like player to discuss.  He's already on record for where he thinks Tebow stands.  He would NOT let himself consider that another Tebow-like player is at Tebow's level and he's about to be talked about tons.

So if all the players aren't any good around Klein.  How in the hell are we ranked #4 in country?  Is Stephen A Smith this dumb?  If Klein did take a bunch of scrubs and have his team ranked that high and then yes he should  deserve the Heisman.  It amazing how many stupid people they put on TV in sports talk.

I've said this before but this kind of attitude needs to stop locally or it will never stop nationally. If guys on 810 and 610 continue to talk about us as average talent over achievers how do you expect the national media to think anything different? I can imagine it being used against us in recruiting battles. We've got to change this perception!

How does what Stephen said make ANY sense? If Collin is in fact surrounded by "mediocre" talent, which I don't think he is, isn't that MORE of a credit to Collin?

Every team we face KNOWS Collin is getting the ball and they still can't stop him....

Those other guys Stephen talks about are surrounded by "good" talent, which helps take the pressure off of them.

Did you even watch the show Jason Sehorn was on?  All he said was the winning quarterback of our WV game Saturday wouldn't be his Heisman pick if the Cats win, because he currently ranks Braxton Miller 2nd and Klein 3rd.  That show, including Sehorn, spent a huge amount of time saying good things about both Klein and KSU. It was amazing PR for our program.

It should not matter what others say. Just play the game, let it play out and in December we will see who wins it. Whoever does, give them their props and move on. Too many of our fans stay angry about what others say. I've said it before, people around America do not care much about K-State so why get upset about it. They could care less about the Midwest anyway. There are some who hope the Cardinals lose. Just realize there is a national bias of anything Midwest so live with it. It is not something you didn't already know.

K-State thrives on disrespect. So, what's new. No need to hate on someone or get upset over it. Just let the game take care of itself and hope we win again in front of a national audience. That is the the most important thing. Win Saturday. The winner will likely be the favorite anyway.

And as for local media, most media in Kansas and Missouri prefer KU and Missouri anyway. So why get ticked off. Nothing you didn't already know and for many of the ones I know, it won't change either regardless of what any of us think. So cheer for Kstate and let the chips fall where they may be.

As for the ones who talked about racist Stephen A., most around the country think someone black in the Midwest is "dumb and country" and those who are white are nothing but a bunch of "farmers". Kansas City and St. Louis folks already know that. Just do like Iowa State fans do -- be proud of who you are and let the chips fall. Getting turned off doesn't do anything.

CapitolWildcat is right, I am sure his assessment is based on Braxton Miller having had one or two "sexy" highlight plays on ESPN, he probably has not seen one of our games and possibly not much in the way of CK highlights at all, just going off some stereotype.  Lookng at the stats of each Collin and Miller, you could focus on one area or another to argue the case for either (the differences are based on different styles of offense somewhat), the notion that Miller is just head and shoulders over Collin is just ignorant and not bourne out by stats (and our stats are not padded by a weak schedule, so that usual line of argument is BS):

Miller has 7 games so far to Collin's 6, so if you just projected the average over those 6 games to a 7th game for Collin the numbers would look as follows:

Passing:

Collin -- 92 of 137 for 1253 yds with 8 TDs, 2 ints and 5 sacks

Miller -- 96 of 159 for 1271 yds with 11 TDs, 4 Ints and 12 sacks

Rushing:

Collin ? 114 rushes for 595 yds with 12 TDs

Miller ? 129 rushes for 912 yds for 9 TDs

Again, those #s are pretty indistinguishable, some bits that either side could argue from -- Miller has signifcantly more rushing yds on more attempts, but fewer rushing TDs.  Collin has about the same passing yds on fewer attempts, and has slightly fewer passing TDs, but also significantly fewer ints and sacks, and also has the higher QB rating 159.6 v. 145.3.

So any argument that one is just so much better than the other is one not based on numbers, but based on "perception", style, stereotypes or just assumptions that someone who plays for OSU is better than a player for any non-tradtional power.

If I spent my whole life worrying about what others think of me or my alma mater or for that matter, what I do for a living, I would have already shot myself (or someone -- don't worry, won't happen). I always say this and have said this on this board when someone disagrees with me and I would say this to any K-Staters who get upset over say a Stephen A. Just keep thinking: "Not my problem" Or if you want to take it a step further, just think the old Chinese statement, "So sorry, do not care"

Smith needs to realize that it's not the talent that surrounds you that makes you stand out or constitutes whether or not you are Heisman worthy.  It's the level of talent that is trying to stop you from standing out.  You could have all the talent in the world around you and be the best player on that team, but if you can't produce against quality opponents when it matters, when you are suppose to, when real players make plays, then you aren't Heisman worthy.  Geno has had some great games obviously, but after last week, it's easy to see that he has not played against anyone and when he does, he not only fails to produce, but folds to the point of being irrelevant.

Same goes for Braxton Miller.  Who have they played?  They barely beat UAB at home?  Won by 1 over Michigan State, the same Michigan State that lost to Iowa.  They barely beat Indiana by 3 this past weekend.  Indiana?

Collin has beaten two ranked teams on the road, one of them being Oklahoma, where no ranked team had ever gone into Norman and beaten a Stoops led Sooner team.  Collin was the one who made the plays to seal both of those games.  He is the one who lead his team to big time wins against big time defenses.  And with less talent around him as Stephen A. Smith seems to claim.  So in other words, Collin has single handedly beaten better teams then both Geno and Braxton have combined.  That's why he stands out, that's why he is Heisman worthy and that's why Stephen A. Smith knows absolutely nothing about what it takes to be Heisman worthy.

Stephen A. is a shock jock. He could care less about college football and could care less about the appearance of his college football knowledge. I've always respected Skip, because I think he does his homework and is a great debater for debates sake... There's a reason Stephen A.'s show was cancelled on ESPN once already. Yes, he had his own hour long program at 8 or 9 o'clock where he would yell at people, the TV camera and occasionally sit down on set and chum up with some pop culture icon... It was cancelled because he's not that good, plain and simple...

Thank You Stephen A. Smith.

Thank You for delivering us a win this Saturday.

Now, some will say that you don't deserve the credit. Some will say that because you are surrounded by more commentators at ESPN that have more knowledge than you, that you standing out from the crowd doesn't mean much. It is true that your knowledge of football is astoundingly bad, maybe worse than anyone over there, but I think your lack of knowledge would stick out even if you were surrounded by scrubs.

stephen a smith...  really don't know much about the guy...  he hasn't done anything worth noting to my knowledge.

I pulled the info below off the net:

Smith was born in the Bronx (New York), and raised in the Hollis neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. He has four older sisters.

He attended Winston-Salem State University, a historically black university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While in college, he played basketball under Hall of Fame coach Clarence Gaines. He later wrote an article for the university newspaper suggesting that Gaines retired due to health issues.[2] He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

So he went to an all black college...  nah, there's little chance he is a tad bias...LOL.

There's only one way to shut his pie hole... K-State must beat WV.

By the way, nice move trying to tell your coach to retire...ha ha.

So kccall- I am a bit confused. Your friends and acquaintances from the coasts think we are a bunch of farmers? I am assuming that is a complement. I am glad they think that instead of something awful like lawyers, politicians or (much worse) media types. I am amazed how people with their noses in the stratosphere think we are the parochial, provincial rubes when we know a whole lot about their lousy world than they know about ours.

Those other guys Stephen talks about are surrounded by "good" talent, which helps take the pressure off of them.
Best point in this thread.  Smith's argument is so logically flawed that is is laughable.  If he had a shred of intelligence, or dignity, he'd be embarrassed for himself.

One can make a case for Geno, and to a lesser extent, Miller, on their own merits, and there are others that certainly belong in the mix, too.  We're six games in, and there are many heroics to come.  But to argue that Collin only "stands out" only because the rest of his team is so bad/mediocre is just idiotic.  Any team that beats THIS Oklahoma team in Norman with one good player should be able to engrave that player's name on the Heisman trophy.   And Smith's too stupid to recognize the implications of his moronic arguments.

Well said ccox.  Smith can't have it both ways.  Either Klein is the greatest player in the country to have us doing what we're doing with otherwise mediocre talent, or K-State has to have much more talent than he credits us for.  But this is bulletin board material at it's finest.  It just makes me excited for Saturday to get here.

Smith has always struck me as someone who makes his mind up on a topic, and then digs in his heels to prove that he's right.  The better Collin looks, the more he'll double-down on his senseless arguments.

Why worry about the people at 810 and 610 when we do the same thing on this board?? Like to have a nickel every time a thread shows up trumpeting a columnist somewhere praising Snyder because he is a miracle worker who gets a team of no-talent players to overachieve. Virtually EVERY ONE of these columns has the same theme, minimizing and denegrating the program and even the city its located in while elevating the coach.

I sometimes wonder if all the ksu players the last twenty years who played in the nfl appreciate being called overachievers!

Don't understand our fan base sometimes, we all love coach Snyder and he is a legend who deserves immense praise but even he isn't above our football program. He will retire shortly, maybe after this season, and then what? KSU football is finished??

The national and local press thinks so and sometimes I think most of our fan base does as well.

Winner!  Paul Rhodes said essentially the very same thing on Saturday after the game, but instead of calling him a racist, many praised Rhodes for his class.

Bottom line is that these guys on first take are supposed to troll each other.  Every single person posting in this thread knows Screamin A. hasn't seen KSU play one damn down yet just couldn't control themselves from having a tantrum.  Many of these people accuse someone else of playing the race card when issues of race come up, but couldn't call this schmuck racist fast enough because he is paid to troll people and our white QB just happens to be the target.  Hell one dude just happened to have a blackface pic locked and loaded.  Coincidence I'm sure.

Did it occur to any of you "he's a racist" dumbasses that the players he's denigrating are black?  What I just typed won't make any sense to you idiots.

Pippen?  But whatevs, I thought the more apt comparison would have been Auburn.  And KSU will come out ahead on the deal because we didn't have to pay Collin $100K to come play here.

A small football tidbit or two ....   :excited:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think these are out there, but I ran across them and thought I'd pass them along.

Starting CB Brodrick Jenkins is out this week for West Virginia.  He has a cartilage tear.

Now, I don't know much about him or if he is any good as a corner, because I haven't watched much WVU on film.

But, if he was starting for their defense, he has to be better than the backup -- or that usually is the case.

And their defense is not their strong point, I think would be safe to say.

At wide receiver, Tavares Copeland, a true freshman will start after burning his redshirt last week.  It remains to be seen if he is taking over for the injured Stedman Bailey or not.  Bailey is nursing a "sprained ankle" suffered last Saturday.
