Minus Arthur, will our rush defense actually improve?
« on: April 12, 2011, 11:33:03 AM »
Other than adding Tillman & Meshack we didn't do much this off season to improve along the D-Line. Yes, Tre Walker will probably add 15 or so pounds of muscle but he's still a stick.

I swear, if our defense is just as bad as last season's than I'm taking out Cosh. :chainsaw:

it should improve simply due to the infusion of speed at a few positions and more depth.  Who knows how much better but should be better...sort of by default I suppose.

biggest problem I see is that we have DT's who stick, or can't disengage from blocks.  That is a problem.

Fully expect the pass rush and tfl's to increase.  just hope we can find a warm body at corner who can do something in coverage.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

Cosh was to blame for last year's defense.  If the defense fails to improve, Snyder is at fault.

I think the DL could be decent this year with some combination of Davis, Meshak, Harold, etc at DE and Boyd, Kibble, Tillman, Guidry, etc at DT.  Seems like we actually have some decent talent anyway.

Also-  seems like we have quite a few guys that could step in at corner and do a decent job as well.  I don't think our D will be great or anything but it could be mediocre, a huge improvement over last year.

I can't take another season of Kibble/Guidry in the middle. Doesn't seem like Guidry's body can handle the weight very well. :frown:

Great question Pett, yes I think it will improve, however, Cosh simply is no jim leavitt or for that matter Vk.  At the same time however while he isn't the best and im not a fan of him really quite frankly, i see our defense improved a solid amount.  The reason is because that this defense has the bodies that we add like Tillman who we were so lucky ot get who will provide a huge immediate boost to our interior.  As for pass rush, Harold will no longer be double teamed, heard he's healthy and that along with Davis who is slow to progress but steady with the likes of Williams, Lutui, and possibly harvill will provide new "blood" and much better athleticism, and speed up front.  Id say defense is respectable somewhere in 60s or 70s which isn't "good" but a hell of a lot better than last year and a step in the right direction.  All ill say is thank god Snyder is our HC cuz with this defensive staff and with out Snyder we' be  :runaway: because, Snyder knows how to develop and coach players, sure he's more of an offensive master but never sleep on him on d either.  He's a legendary coach, getting us turned around again.  Staff did a pretty good job of filling needs this year. I see our recruiting slowly but surely getting better as well.  EMAW!!! :pbj: :ksu:

Oh and further in my general opinion, Cosh wasn't "directly" to blame for the d last year I think we was delt a horrible hand in that, esp because VK left knowing what would happen to the defense this year.  Also we saw the "prince" effect last year on our d as he screwed us up after moore, houlik, fitzgarald, thomas, calvin, ulla left, huge blow as we went from 33 players seeing action on d in 09 to just 15 players! We lost 18 of those this past offseason, however this year its ALL ON COSH if he doesn't improve us and we r just as bad, then he needs to leave immediately because theres no excuse to have this kind of defense with this much of "talent" coming in and added depth helping out this year.  It would be terrible.  This isn't great talent but its  a hell of a lot better than 2010 for sure, and depth is better esp. up front, (still dt's sucks in terms of depth) but anyways u get my drift.  So if its not better cosh will need to be show the door

If kibble and guidry are in the interior on defense next year expect more of the same, god, i swear, they just don't have what it takes to be productive dt's in d1! As for cosh well if we don't improve we wont win more than 6 gums. and if we have a 4 win season ill be really really saddened.

i appreciate the sentiment, im just another kstater, eff ku, ever damn time they try to copy us in football is like trying to get rev gill to put the names back on their jerseys while he's coaching the squawks.  If i was a ku fan, id be effing some dude in the parking lot behind rev gills house, while looking at todd reesings hair balls. How do I know your not a ku fan? Are you some kind of spy for the rev? no im kidding lol.

you know it's bad when the "optimistic sock" is hopeful for a defense ranking in the mid-60's; and the very thought of such a d is laughable.

Well said. Either way I'd like to see Cosh's house for sale in the very near future.

A defense in the 60s would be pretty solid, considering we'll have to play Miami, OU, UT, A&M, Baylor, TTU, OSU, Mizzou, etc.
