only the non-important federal govt employees will potentially be affected. bfd. the important people will just keep right on working and making money. they should really do this more often.

I've been working for NASA for the past 10 years and am a part of the flight crew taking the old bird up for her final voyage this month. I'll be pissed if this government shutdown delays the launch.

Missionessential NASA employees would still work. No need to worry clams. You're good. It's the non important fed gov employees that need to start jeffying things.

that's good news b/c i have a buddy of mine who is going to pay me $100 to write his name on the outside of the space station during one of our space walks and i could use the cash. but like usual nasa hasn't told us jackshit yet, glad to know someone knows something about this.

Not really. Mission essential and whatnot. It does keep dragging out when new RFPs drop. That's a pain in the ass.

Are you guys going to have to take out your own trash, clean your restrooms, etc.? Are you going to have to work without pay? I'm just curious if some of the stories I'm hearing are true.

No. We're a private company working a defense contract that falls under the J-2. There have been rumors that the chocolate fountain will only carry domestic chocolates (blech). But, we soldier on and remind ourselves that freedom isn't free.
