He's dead and can't defend himself is my problem. 

Even if the allegations were true, it doesn't change what he did during his lifetime.  It's only relevant if the purpose of making the accusation is to tarnish his character.  Since he's dead, and has been for a while, I'm not sure how his character is relevant to anything today (other than the d-bag author's wallet).

First of all, the content of the book sheds interesting light on an important historical figure.  If he has evidence to support his claim and he's not just pulling this "Ghandi was racist" business out of his ass, then it deserves some credence.  In other words, people are interested in Ghandi and would probably be interested to know that he slept with men and was racist.  Whether or not it's "relevant to anything today" is beside the point as I've read plenty biographies about dead people that are not relevant to anything today, but still hold some historical value.

Whether or not him being bisexual "tarnishes his character" is up to the reader to decide, but I imagine many historians would be interested to view the life of Ghandi through this new racist/bisexual context.

This all depends on whether or not the author provides significant evidence to support the claims though.
