RT @kbohls: Texas Tech will thoroughly vet Billy Gillispie, but will consider the former A&M and Kentucky coach. He's one helluva coach.

kind of shocking they made a move before the tournament.   :ck:

Tells me that they are real serious about getting either a specific guy who is available now(billy), or want first crack at whoever becomes available.

Given their new AD I would expect a big name hire.  Who else is out there besides BCG?

Give the Carousel time.  It will spin off a few more names to watch.  It always does.

Considering the fact that it's Texas Fracking Tech, I would expect otherwise.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Not a fan of firing a coach after only three seasons. I have known Pat Knight a long time. He is a darn good basketball coach.

I once thought that the Rec supervisors had made their way onto the court and were pulling a prank on Texas Tech, when they visited.

Then I realized that was the coaching staff.

Tend to agree.

But I like how Tech timed it. They didn't give Pat some chance at a ridiculous run in the Big 12 tournament to save his job. If you know you want to change, make a change.  So I like their decision from that point.

Also, I'm sure part of their deal was that Pat had already been doing a lot for several years b/c he was there with his dad. I'm sure that factored in to their only 3 years deal. Plus the roster full of SRs and a new AD.

I'm pretty sure they've already been talking to Billy too.

Frank Martin made the elite 8 in just 3 years. Pat Knight accomplished nothing. It's not fair, but Frank has set the 3 year standard.

If Tech doesn't hire a recruiter (which pat knight is NOT), they might as well start scheduling home and homes with New Mexico and Wyoming because that's what conference they'll be in.

So would Pat Knight joining our staff be at all feasible next year?  I know some have mentioned Frank might be interested but I wasn't sure if it could ever happen with our current staff wanting to stay.

Is it just me or has Frank had Underwood out front a little more this year?  Think he wants a head job and Frank is getting him closer?

Could be trading Undies for Pat?

He could take a DoB roll like former Missouri State HC Barry Hinson has at KU the last couple of years.

kinda fair, i guess.

i agree a bit on the timing.  oth, i wouldn't like to bring in a new coach in a year where you lose all the seniors.  pretty much guarantees that the new coach's first year will be horrible and will help kill the new coach buzz quicker than normal.  although i guess the iowans didn't seem to care much that their hero-coach was the laughingstock of the league.

Buys him a few years because the cupboard is bare, has to rebuild from scratch,  etc., etc.

the new coach always gets a few years.  putting him in with players that can provide success in the first year (huggins, lavin, etc) is a huge fan and recruiting boost.

Yeah, but the fans aren't as tough on you if you don't win right away.

You're right, but Hoiberg is going to be cozy for a long time because the situation was so bad when he got there that there were literally no expectations.
