The new Vanier will likely be on the east side of the stadium.  Then it can provide a limestone east side to the stadium similar to the west side.  The old Vanier can then be torn down and the end enclosed.

:flush: ugh, that would add way too many seats

Just round off the north end with a slimmer row of seats.  I think most of the rest of the stadium horseshoe is like 44 rows..... So Make the north endzone 20 or 25 rows.  That'd only be like 5 or 7 thousand seats right? We can swing that for 7 or 8 home games. C'mon folks!

What would that bump us to?  Like 58 or 60k???  We can do it

I don't see what the big deal about adding seats is. I mean, we shouldn't complete a project with adding seats in mind, but if the north side redesign adds 7000 seats, who cares? We can always sell a few thousand tickets for $20 in areas that are difficult to fill.

well if they take down the seats in the "fun zone" wouldnt it balance out give or take a thousand or so?

IMO moving vanier to the east side sucks.  Can't we build a new one behind the new north end and then beef up the east side boxes and stuff when the put the facade on the east?

If there is one thing I can praise Currie about, it is selling tickets.  He markets packages very well.  For the first time ever, the top corners of the east side were full every game.

I think we could be ok with 5-7k more seats.

Why not build the new vanier/indoor over kimball similar to bartle hall. that way it wouldn't have to take up much space on the other side of kimball.

the solution to having too many seats is to offer a realistic expansion and to do it in bigger seating areas.  loge seating, club seats, party decks, standing room only areas, and areas with other improved fan amenities.

For the record, I'd love (  )  to have a 60k stadium if Curry can fill it.

We've been selling cheap tickets for years and demand is not close to being able to sell out even 55,000 on a consistent basis. You also have to be very careful about how many cheap tickets you offer so that you don't devalue all of your seats.  Iowa State brags about their 60,000 seat football stadium and their 15,000 seat arena but their ticket revenue is garbage.

I'm not in favor of expansion but this is much more business savvy than just "filling in the bowl" that keeps being thrown out there, that's dumb.

Well, he's not wrong per say. The KC guys bailed because they didn't think they could maintain 40% occupancy. The Denver group has more money than they know what to do with and are so 3MAW there ok with anything over 32% which would break even. One of them is building a house in Manhattan, so we could be talking about the same developers.

Hey, Tim Fitzgerald, best advice would be not to disclose business strategy of a potential developer on a public forum.

I'd rather have a 60,000 seat stadium that is only occaisionally full than a 50,000 seat stadium that is always full.

A 61k stadium would be the 3rd largest stadium in the Big 12.

+1.  Pro venues have all adopted this model.  Most new and renovated stadiums are trying to maximize premium, promotional seating.  Obviously, this is a bit easier when you serve alcohol at an event.  But, look at the K, Arrowhead and Sporting Park for local models.  The K and Arrowhead both dropped their capacities modestly and, in return, loaded up with all of the stuff Clams mentioned.  SPark has all of this stuff too, in addition to the Members Club and the $75 all you can eat/drink seats.

Town Hall should hold between 50-55K councilmembers, loaded up premium/promotional seating that will draw in families, recent grads, Ft. Riley folks, etc.

It's far easier and cheaper to enjoy these games in HD, on 60+" TVs with alcohol.

Add a black and gold section for Mizzou fans who secretly miss the Big 12.  Should fill 5-7k at least right?   :dunno:

Moving Vanier to the east makes a decent amount of sense.  For one, if done properly, it would permit an entire aesthetic overhaul of the east side to match the WestSide.  If Vanier isn't moved, I don't see the east being redone for years.  Also, it eliminates any disruption to Bill's offseason, such disruption being the primary hurdle to ever touching Vanier while he's still coaching.  I also think that with the local sports architecture talent that KC has, somebody will find a way to design a new north endzone to replace the void that'll be left by Vanier.

Hell, if Vanier is moved, we could simply move the indoor practice facility to the old Vanier footprint and connect it to the stadium.

I have a feeling we're going to have to add more seats basically so we can say that we have a bigger stadium.

I personally really like the "Indiana" concept for the North Endzone, but with more of Vanier II showing.

That said, it's hard for as a follower of this for so many years not to be interested on the East Side because building an entirely new facility there means Vanier I doesn't have to shut down and football moved to tempoary quarters.   Things is, IMO they'll have to go all in, sacrifice some parking and build a practice complex with new indoor facility and practice fields.  Otherwise you're just creating more logistical problems   Convert the old grass fields into addtional parking.   A gameday dressing room complex would have to maintained though.

The Northeast Hill could be an interesting place for Vanier II, they'd have to move a lot of earth for ground level access though.

Well, I think it depends. If we could almost always have 57-58k and then fill it completely for the big games, I would like to have a 60k stadium. If we had 48-50k most games, and 60k for the big ones, then yes additional seating would be dumb.

I don't think we could get 57-58 most games though. It would be particularly gross on the years we suck.

If they were to move the new Vanier to the east side of the stadium, they'd have to do it in such a way where it doesn't interruption or disconnect the concourse

Why not build a new Vanier underneath the field?  Isn't that how the old Roman Colosseum worked?
