Hoping for a similar improvement,
Seems like ours may be even more awe inspiring. From the renders that won't actually be used, it looks like ours is 6 times bigger than what we have now (2x as high, 3x as wide), whereas that looks about 3x as wide with similar height.

Also, VT's looks kind of bad.  Looks very patchwork-y, like they just added some crap on each side that doesn't match at all.  I know they didn't but that's what it looks like.

so how long until we have some power point slides leaked out?

I doubt much will get leaked until the project is completely bid. All of the renderings are out there with certain companies that have been asked to give bids. The renderings on page 53 are "The Renderings" except that there are about 10 more pages that contain about 6 more future phases including seats being added that connect section 1 to the north endzone and permanent seating on top of vanier. The tailgate I was at several weeks ago is a large donor that does interior finish work and they have the rendering booklet and have been asked to give bids for the finishing work.  They were holding the plans like a top secret file from the government.  The plan is to start building the first two sections after this season is over, starting with the areas to the north of the current pressbox and to the south of the pressbox and leave it like that until after next season when they knock down the current pressbox and finish it completely for the 2013 season.  For 2012 it will basically look like a construction zone much like Boone Pickens was for 2 seasons.  It's a monster project that can't be completed in one offseason.  It's going to be exciting indeed and when Currie says "Scale" he's not kidding.  Breathtaking.
good post

Now some of the other posters in this thread said that there was an issue with the renderings and switching firms.  Made it seem like the new firm couldn't use those pics and that things would change.  Confirm/deny?

I heard stuff about phases too.  I specifically asked about that old rumor of connecting Bramlage and BSFS with suites in between, and he said there's nothing like that he's seen.  So, if they are going to expand it out, it will have to be the North End Zone, which would be pretty sweet.

Here's a question for those in the know...

Are we limited to the ~$60 million in bonded funds for this thing, or are we securing donations for even more?

If we're going to do this up right, now is the time.  If we can make our money go farther due to economic conditions, try to spend a little more and get $90 million worth of work for ~$75-80 million.

State approved the $60mil, and I think any additional needs to come from donations.  Last I heard they were looking for an additional $15mil in donations.

I talked to my friend last night, and he said that a current sticking point is whether or not to "close the bowl".    Pretty much said exactly what everyone said on here.

However, he said that if I wanted to probably see what it would look like if we did it, we should look at the Washington State expansion.  AECOM is doing it as well, and they would probably do almost the exact same thing.

Archie/Engineering types...

What are the possibilities that they could just incorporate Vanier into a wraparound structure that would encompass the West side and North End Zone like the picture I posted above?

Maybe they will finally give the south tucks a bigger video board.

They need to fix the aspect ratio of the south video board first.

New video board in the N. Endzone is a must...it's like watching a 23" tv.
I want the new pressbox to look more like Iowas (except bigger and nicer) def. don't want a Va.Tech job (looks like patchwork).

a closed bowl that incorporated new bleacher seating where Vanier is and pressbox wrapping around would be ideal, imo.

The boot is firmly back on the throat of our in-state rival.

Do Not, under any circumstances let this project slip in any way ADJC and UPKS, do not be complete and total non strategic F-ups like your predecessors.

Doesn't sound like it will.  Sounds like they're trying to be more ambitious given the opportunity our current success is providing.

upgraded practice facilities/ locker room etc.?

That would be a part of the wrap around.  Locker room, training table, workout area, etc. are all a part of this.  The only thing that's not is the indoor practice facility, which is fine at the moment.
