if we close the bowl on the northside we might as well fire up the groupon ad right now.

Could a second tier be added to the south endzone that might link up with East side and new West side up top?

We talked about that.  He said that would cost crazy money too, and what would we do with the videoboard?

A source told me that the master plan is to eventually "wrap seating around from the upper deck on both sides to enclose the stadium", not sure what that entails. This phase would come well after the press box stage, probably years down the road.

That was the masterplan circa 1998.

The original master plan for THIS project was to have a VIP seating area outside of the Recruiting Center in the Northeast Endzone.   Otherwise there wasn't any substantial seat expansion outside of maybe 1500-2000 more with the 2nd stadium club and suites.

We will never add more seating.  Nor should we.

that doesn't go for premium/box seating, which we are adding (and should)

Agreed.

We should have loads and loads of premium seating, and should probably REDUCE regular seating.  I'd put the "press box" at the top of the EAST side and remove the top 10-15 rows over there...then keep the ENTIRE West side for premium seating.

The only reason to be at 50K is just to say you are at 50K.  One seat more than that is an empty seat.

the town really should grow a decent amount in the next twenty years so taking away seats at this point in time would be pretty stupid imo. they sold out the first two games of this season. i mean seriously kent state was the second game of the year and they sold it out. i'm not saying they need to add, but they certainly don't need to take away.

yeah, I wouldn't take any away as it would just cost money to do so.  Leave the corners up top empty but add, like, a few thousand box seats similar to the east side club level and boxes on the west side with the press box expansion.  basically exactly what the bluesky renderings show is what I'm saying.

With the growth of Manhattan, we could add a few thousand seats in the next 10 years or so and be able to fill them (assuming we're fielding a decent product).

yes, as long as every seat we add is a premium seat I have no issues with adding

I meant 59k, but in my post, I also said "very informal word."

So, I talked to a guy I know that's working on the thing today, and he told me that there aren't currently any plans at this point to close the north end zone, which is the only thing they can really do to significantly expand seating.  He said they may ultimately do it, but if so, it wasn't going to be a part of this phase unless they want to spend a crazy amount of money.

Also, he said that renderings aren't going to come out any time soon because the whole thing was put on hold (which he told me a while back, but CC said no).  Well, he again said that's what he was told by the people that give him his marching orders, and it was on hold until the whole conference thing was taken care of because we obviously had budgeted some of this expansion from the TV money.

Anyway, just passing along what he told me.

Conference realignment was not the main reason this was put on hold, and why we haven't seen renderings.  They are definitely still working on it, and looking for a GC.

KSU should never have a stadium with more than 50K seats.

I agree with DLew.  50k is plenty enough seats.  If the demand was to ever exceed our capacity, sweet.  Nobody likes seeing a half empty stadium like Miami's was today.  Just pathetic.

I dunno. We've been selling the thing out lately and/or getting it close to full quite often. I think if the team gets and stays good enough, 55,000 wouldn't be out of the question.

Well, 55k wouldn't be out of the question.  It's not much more than 50k.  Still, I see empty seats @BSFS.  I didn't see a single empty seat at the Clemson/FSU game.  If we get to that type of capacity for a few years, an extra 5k might be warranted.
