I understand the need for immediate eye hernia attention but KSU just passed over the best sports architecture firm in the world.

Something stinks.

Maybe they dont wanna fork over the cash.. so well get a stadium that looks like a hospital for  less...

Considering Heery has a local office right down the road from UT that just so happened to do Pearl’s basketball training facility, this has all the indications of Currie repaying a little favor to his boys back in Tennessee.  The comical irony about the “good ol’ boy” thing.  FWIW.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Newsflash dumbasses: Currie picked the ATL firm because of their stunning work on Maryland's press box.  Sorry we didn't get the local firm to handle this.  Bet the people saying that Populous is "the best sports architecture firm in the world" also routinely say that "tallgrass is the best beer in the world."

Give me a break here.

Who did ITexTech use?  Currie seemed pretty impressed with their stuff.

Oh come on, it's not like Populous is some little garage based architecture shop, and this time around Currie opted to go with the "big boys" from the ATL.

Populous understands K-State, they're one of the best, they employ a bunch of K-State graduates (and last I checked K-State had a Top 10 Architecture School).

Plus if you want some squawks outed, maybe you should start with one of the lead guys at AECOM.

Yeah I said it . . .  :comehere:

Look, I'm cool with KSU arch's. I'm cool with Populous too. I'm also not sure I want someone that "understands K-State". If this school "gets Texas" and "gets pretty much any SEC school X", then I hope they confuse us with them and does our crap like they would do theirs.

A) If this non-populous place does a bang up job then I salute both them and Currie
B) If they don't, and we can get even circumstantial evidence that Currie was just scratching the back of this non-populous place and maybe torpedoed Populous to do so...we will destroy both of them

This rough ridin' thing had better be the best god damn football expansion to ever grace an American campus, or Currie's ass is on the airplane banner....

....but my guess is that he's already gone...pick the homeboy's, grab the next smoking ship out of town.  Currie Wins.

...hope I am wrong, but you don't just kick out the world leader in sports arch, who happens to have 40 some odd EMAW working there and bring in your old cronies from UT and not get second-guessed about this....

Well, I am not even in the business and even I understand that the best architects can't give you Tiffany diamonds when they're given a Coors Light budget to work with.

Like I said earlier, you don't like how the West Side turned out, blame the KSU AD at the time.   Plus it was basically mom and pop shops who did the current pressbox and a bunch of stuff on Vanier, and I'll throw a bone to the arch's on the current pressbox because when it was designed and built it was considered one of the nicest in the country, it's just that things of that nature evolved very rapidly after that.

When Populous was given the orders to "to do it right" at K-State they designed the BTF, and unless something happens between right now and when the project is done,  that's going to be a very nice facility.

There's a lot of stuff some of you are missing.   I hope it turns out fantastic because I want what's best for K-State, but if it doesn't then . . .  :chainsaw:

My point is that Heery's most recent press box renovation, to my understanding, was Maryland.  Our current stadium and Maryland's (pre renovation) are very similar. If ours turns out like Maryland's did, it will look very good.  Anyone who disagrees is a butthurt Populoustard.

Well, looking at the UT practice facility it says "Blankenship Design" but I suspect that's just the local guys/gals Heery hired . . . anybody know??   :ck:

Hiring architecture firms is almost the same as hiring head coaches for resume-building, right?

Look, I think we can all agree that Currie should be strung up if this facility ends up not being top notch, but that would be true regardless of who designed the facility. It makes no sense whatsoever for any of us to care who Currie hires to design the renovations.

it could give us more ammo to string him up (if it sucks)

If he went with Populous (and it sucked), I would just say that Currie K-Stateo'd it up with the local firm and use that as ammo to string him up.

There's plenty of ammo lying around here, is what I'm saying.

This whole thread is full of

Dax's statement about Populous "getting" KSU is laughable. It's not like it's a small office with the same team doing every job. They have hundreds of employees. Odds are they recommended a team for the job and the team's resume and portfolio sucked. It's happening more and more with Populous. Heery is more than capable and they're a good firm. Acting like Populous is the only way to go is a joke. They've been going down hill for a while now.
