The "electronically timed 40" is always one of  my favorites.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

If only South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette had known that this kid would soon be running a 4.3 they might have extended an offer.

you're that little dude that sits back behind someone taking pot shots.

I'm sorry The Manhatter.  I wish I shared your optimistic point of view on all things KSU football. I think I'm just sad that we're not very good, and I can say hurtful things when I am sad. It's certainly nothing personal. Except for when I called you a dumbass that one time. That was pretty personal. Friends?

no grudges.  I'd just rather you call me a dumbass than rip on all the players, coaches, and recruits.  some of our players are pretty good college football players.  have some good coaches too.  some of these recruits will materialize.  i'm not big on some of these kids we're recruiting...got a few in this particular class I don't care for but no reason to go  :runaway: though I do that at times.

as a ksu fan it's difficult to follow recruiting.  for instance, there might be 15-20 cornerback prospects in a given year where the D-1 coaches think have a really solid chance at being "can't miss" type kids...the rest is a crap shoot more or less.  You find athletes, good kids, that you think might develop.

getting back to the 40 times...it doesn't always mean everything and that is why coaches like to see these kids in person.  I've heard that even at the NFL level when evaluating combines the scouts like to see kids run and do the drills as much as they want to see the times.  You can tell when a prospect is athletic from watching how they run and move around and that isn't something a stopwatch collects.

it's impressive how some of these kids develop.  Collin Kaepernick, the QB out of Nevada, came out of high school weighing 170 and ran a 5.0 at one of those prep combines...at the NFL combine he weighed 65lbs more and ran a 4.53..that is impressive.  Titus Young, the stud receiver from Boise, weighed 150lbs out of high school running a 4.79 and clocked a 4.43 at the combine and 4.39 on his pro day.  They all don't develop that way but kids like Kaepernick and Young looked good on film enough to get a chance.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

Classic and typical thread in tuckville talking about Bender's awful first game.

Apparently Snyder knows way more about football than Nebraska's coaching staff could ever dream of knowing.

Not a good opening game for a guy holding a D1 scholarship to play QB at K-State.

I'm not sure and I will wait for a ruling from the collective goEMAW body, but I'm almost certain that Dax just gave a compliment however backhanded it might have been to Nebraska.

I'm not worried about Bender. If he doesn't pan out at QB, Snyder will surely just move him to WR.

to be fair to Bender, his team is super shitty.  I don't know if he's part of the problem or not but I wouldn't expect good numbers from him even if he is the next Michael Bishop.

Recruiting . . . nah, it's not important, diamonds in the rough, and do you really know more than Snyder?

So true Dax.  If only we could recruit like  KU, we could totally be really good.  And people that choose to look at one (out of many) instances as the par are totally thinking logically.  I mean, it happened once, what does it matter if that was an anomaly?  IT HAPPENED ONCE!!!!

Programs that are mediocre due to bad coaching despite good recruiting are much better off than the opposite. I feel like we've really been over this point several times.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Arlington (Texas) Bowie defensive tackle Demonte Hood has offers from the SEC, Big 12 and Pac-12, but the 6-foot, 290-pound senior recently narrowed down his college list to three schools.
"My top three are Arkansas, Kansas State and Kansas," Hood said. "I'm going to take some tours of the campuses and see which home I'm going to pick after the season."

Hood was dominant on Monday, leading the Bowie defense in a 36-6 win over New Orleans Edna Karr at the Kirk Herbstreit National Kickoff Classic at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Hood brings strength, speed and excellent technique to the Bowie program. Part of his agility stems from participating on the school's wrestling team. Hood added that he spent most of the summer improving his speed, flexibility, dexterity and endurance.

Hood also has offers from Washington State and San Diego State, and UCLA and Oklahoma State are among the schools that have expressed interest in his services.

"I'm happy because it just lets you know you're taking care of business in practice," Hood said. "That's where it all starts, with practice and in the classroom."

Hood said of the three schools on his list, the winning school will have a good academics program, a feel similar to his home and a solid Christian background.

"I'm a Christian, so that's important to me," Hood said. "I just want to be somewhere where I know I'll be comfortable. I want it to feel like how it is for me now."
