Crabtree was on 810 and said that Bryant's main reason for decommitting from K-State was that he didn't like how running backs are being used here. We now might be looking closer to home at the McCoy kid from Topeka High.
Also, everyone is using Bill's age against us in recruiting. Coaches have told him they use it.
he's smart enough to realize that his peers would be using it against him but i do not buy into the narrative that it's a reason why we're not getting recruits
It's not why we don't have better targets, but it certainly could be a reason why better targets would not come here. There is virtually no shot that this staff will be here in four years, players commit to coaches and staffs, not schools.
no doubt, but i think that there's enough evidence in play to firmly understand what this staff values in the recruiting process and how they operate. i think the age thing is a strawman excuse for people looking for a reason why our recruiting sucks.
Age isn't a strawman. The bottom line is, if a kid is recruited who wants to play for Snyder it is a pretty easy (and persuasive) argument to say "you're going to go to that school and end up playing for someone else."
A reasonable counterargument would be that very few talented kids actually DO want to play for Snyder. If you think you're one of the best in the country, you don't want to feel like you might get marginalized if Snyder just happens to feel you aren't working as hard as some farm boy from Ogden.
As usual, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
