Thanks to reconfigured parking because of the rebuilding of Salmen High School, plus having only a single entry gate, lots of folks arrived late for Friday night's opener between the Spartans and Northshore.Too bad. They missed it. Or at least most of it.Salmen displayed its explosiveness on offense and defense in the first quarter, and the Panthers even had a big play of their own. But that only temporarily slowed the Spartans as they rolled to a crushing 50-7 victory in the Spanther Bowl."They're good; they're real good, " said Northshore Coach Mike Bourg. "They're going to win the state championship in 4A.""And we were real bad. We were horrible."Salmen finished the opening period with 198 yards, and that's not counting T.J. Price's 55-yard interception return for the game's first score.Northshore answered Price's touchdown two plays into the next series when Jared Faciane never let his knee touch the ground after seemingly being tackled after a short gain; he popped up and went 71 yards for a touchdown.Daniel Flot's extra point gave the Panthers a 7-6 lead.Salmen's deficit lasted for all of 16 seconds. On the Spartans' next play, Joron Adams broke two tackles on a run to his left for a 70-yard touchdown, and the rout was on.By halftime it was 36-7 and it could have been worse. Matt Lipham's 49-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Sams in the waning seconds was negated by an ineligible receiver downfield call. That was one of three Salmen scores that were called back, but the Spartans scored after two of them anyway.Lipham and Sams did connect for a 31-yard touchdown early in the third quarter following Adams' second touchdown.Lipham and Sams split time at quarterback. Lipham completed three of the seven passes he attempted for 122 yards, including a 70-yarder to Jamal Robinson for Salmen's third touchdown of the second half.Sams was 4-of-6 for 73 yards and an interception. He also played wide receiver, defensive back and even got off a 42-yard punt in the second half. The Spartans wound up with 429 yards and 13 first downs on 37 offensive snaps. Northshore had 123 total yards and four first downs against a Salmen defense led by Price, Ben Ryan and Malcolm Pichon.
I don't see Sams playing at all next year.... IMO billy cosh, collin klein, and Angelo Pease...
Cripps is talking about a BIG recruit committing at the game today. I'm thinking it's Jordan Phillips. Would be great if it is....it fits the hints he's giving.
Its Bernard Thomas
I watched KSU verbal Jade Cathey last night. This is only his 2nd year of hs fb, and he playedWR, Safety, punter and punt returner last night for Liberal. He took the first punt for a 50 yard Tdlast night and showed more wiggle than he did last year. Then he caught 3 TDs (35, 20, 50). He brokeup 2 passes that would have been tds and would have had a pick on another but his own guy broke it up.He hits like a pansy so far, but he didn't miss any tackles.I was really, really impressed and the dude is legit D1. He blew off KSU camp this summer and I've heard he is supposed to visit today and is blowing that off as well so I don't know how solid he is on KSU. They list him at6'5 but he is more between 6'3 and 6'4, but has a great frame with potential to have a Briscoe type of body.
