Jeremy Crabtree ?@jeremycrabtree 10h

KSU has basically wrapped up it's recruiting efforts. @MWinters_Rocks @DamonSayles

This was in response to Sayles announce the signing of KU's 3rd running back, 2nd four star RB of their class.

Honestly I'm frustrated that we canceled some of these kids visits, why wouldn't you try and stack this class with everyone you can possibly get?

Do we need a "How many studs would we have if you were this coaching staff" thread?

Because we were hitting up the 85 man limit around our 18th or 19th recruit when you consider that we've got two grayshirts moving into this class.

By my (estimated) count, we'll have 25 seniors next year, which means we'll be able to sign a full class.  However, I'm guessing we'll go somewhat short there, too, because it sounds/feels like some of the preferred walk-ons from last year will probably get playing time and earn a scholarship.  Geary and Tanking sound like a couple of kids that will probably count against the 85 man limit that won't take up a spot against the 25 man limit.

Bill's recipe right now is a mix of JUCO kids, prep kids, grayshirt kids, and getting some of the better overlooked talent in the state by having a healthy preferred walk-on program that actually rewards kids who show ability.

Moala, while I liked him, was really insurance for Clinkscales.  We don't need another DT in this class.  We return six overall and 3/4 from the interior DL two-deep.  Adding Clinkscales, should he qualify, simply upgrades over Reed.  Hood and Coleman will still be the primary backups.

Honestly, the lack of heavy JUCO numbers gives me some bit of faith that the coaches think we're in a good spot at several positions.

The one position where I think we really whiffed was CB.  We really needed to come away with one prep guy.

Also, someone other than Reuter is going to grayshirt, or we're going to lose at least one underclassman to attrition, because, again, by my count, what we have in this class brings us to 86.

Hmm I guess I didn't realize we were already at our limit.

It would seem to me, that you cannot get kids to buy into the preferred walk-on program unless you consistently demonstrate that kids actually do go on to get scholarships.  So, I agree with Pan that there is likely to be one or two (more?) of these a year.

It would be weird if we hit the 85 scholarship limit, players always leave. I have heard rumors that we are on a couple of players that will fall back to use because of academic issues.

I think the out-going senior class only has ~17 scholarship players in it.

It's July and there's only 6 - 7 spots left in this class!  :fatty:  :excited:

Lol not to go all Kim carnes but I'm pretty sure a spot or two will open up

There will be more than that.  I'm sure we'll end up taking around 30 kids.

Not counting GS and JUCO placements? Not sure how your numbers work??  :dunno:

I have next year's class being similar in numbers... 22 tops, unless we have some defections from the roster.

watched Avery's video and then never thought of him again.  It is a little odd that a kid visits Nebraska, Texas, and then commits to a clown.  This one isn't as straight forward as some recruitments.
Academics is a stupid word.

Academic schools are synonymous for being rich, powerful and exclusive, three things Kansas State is not.

So when people throw the word "academics" around, that's really what they are referencing.

A little bit of information:

+They're still busy trying to flip Williams and Robertson.

+There were two extra LOIs prepared, hearing they are for Moala and Riddle (but haven't been able to confirm), even though both seemingly are set to go elsewhere. Another contact said: "There's smoke around both of them, so I would keep an eye on them." Again, not saying anything will happen with them, but wanted to pass along what I heard.

why on earth did the staff cancel Moala's visit if they are prepping an LOI for him?

You need to add kids that were former walk-ons that are on the two deep.  Bill has, in the past, given kids that crack the two deep a scholarship the following year.

Guys I have on my list of 24:

QB (1): Waters
RB (1): Robinson
FB (1): Nemecheck
WR (2): Sexton, Lockett
TE (1): Trujillo
OL (3): Liddle, Finney, Bennett
DT (3): Roberts, Coleman, Brown
DE (3): Dowling, Mueller, Godinet
LB (4): Johnson, Marley, Snyder, Truman
S (4): Bonugli, Heibert, Green (though he may get a redshirt), Schellenburg
CB (1): Evans

I mistakenly counted Nate Jackson, and he redshirted this year.  If Green gets a redshirt, then it will be 23.

Bill always likes to keep one or two spots in his back pocket for those guys, so it's perfectly believable if we're holding back for that, too.

That's a question a few folks close to the situation are wondering a lot about, too.
