Kenny Hill write-up on A&M's rivals site
Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff has hit the recruiting trail and one of their most important stops was last night at the home of Southlake Carroll quarterback's Kenny Hill.
"Coach Sumlin and Coach Beaty both came by the house last night," said the four-star A&M commit.
Hill is still committed to Texas A&M but is
taking a couple of late visits including
Baylor last weekend and
Kansas State this weekend.
Q: What was the conversation last night with Coach Sumlin and Coach Beaty?
Hill: They mainly told me what their plan is for me and how I fit in.
Q: So what is their plan for you?
Hill: I will come in and will compete to be Johnny's back up. Then once Johnny leaves I will be competing for the starting job.
Q: How does that sit with you?
Hill: That is what I expected. I never though I would go in and take over the Heisman quarterbacks job. That is fine with me. The coaches and I just had to clear some stuff up with me to see where I fit in, in all of this. They did tell with all of the success he is having and the popularity of the duel-threat qb in the NFL right now, there is a good chance he could be leaving in the next two years.
Q: How was the Baylor visit?
Hill: It went well. I had a good time. I got to meet with the coaches and meet with the baseball coaches so it went pretty well.
Q: So did they tell you they see you as their starter?
Hill: Yes ma'am. They told me I could come in and battle for that spot.
Q: Is
Kansas State saying the same thing?
Hill: Yes ma'am.
Q: In the end how do you decide?
Hill: I am just going to go on all of my visits (
Kansas State this weekend and A&M on the January 25) then see how I feel.
Q: Having been to A&M before and now with Baylor official visit over, at this point, is there a clear leader?
Hill: Well, I have always loved A&M, from the very start., and that is where I am committed. Both programs are good programs though.
Q: So in the end do you basically have to decide between battling to start right away or waiting a year or so then battling to start?
Hill: Well, yeah I guess. I will decide between where I feel most comfortable and the place I can excel the most both academically and athletically.
Q: Are all three programs talking about you playing both baseball and football?
Hill: Yes ma'am.
