Our competition is using Snyder against us in the recruiting game and it's really worked this year. Snyder is about to die, retire, etc. works every time.
I don't know why he can't just say he's committed to five more years. I mean everyone knows he could die or get sick or something and retire, but that could happen to any coach. Snyder makes the situation worse by pretending to ask his family for permission to coach every year.

I agree. At this point I don't think anyone would buy the 'five more years', but probably two years ago he should've said he'd be here for at least 5 more. Even if it's a lie, who cares. Coaches lie about assistants being at schools, then after signing day there is a huge asst coach carousel. Not too different

It's maddening.  He should have said from the start "i'm coaching til I die". then to combat any negative recruiting we could just hire an actuary to produce a report saying that given his health and stuff he's got an 80% probability to live until 85 or something.

I wonder if the pundits will adopt the truth that "we're not even trying" in replacement of the fiction "it's difficult to recruit to Manhattan".

I say fiction, because I don't think it's true and because the theory has clearly never been tested.

It is a fiction about recruiting due to location is that much of a detriment. Alabama is in freaking Tuscaloosa, Auburn is in tiny Auburn AL, Clemson is in an even tinier Clemson SC. Hell West Virginia has won tons of BCS bowls and while not doing hot right now has proven success in Morgantown. Heck even at the FCS level freaking North Dakota State has had immense success and it's in North Dakota. If location mattered that much than only the best locals would ever get the best recruits. It's mostly coaches, then somewhat tradition followed closely by facilities. That  lie those numbnuts at the phog somehow believe is that being only 1/2 hour outside of a somewhat larger city in KC but i still have to drive there is that much bigger of a pull for recruiting. It means virtually nothing to recruits and only for the fans who don't have to go as far to see their teams play.

Outside of Freeman, who did Prince bring to Manhattan?  Collin Klein as a pocket passer? Alex Hrebec?

Mastrud. Daniel Thomas. Aubrey Quarles. Brandon Banks. Lamark Brown.

That's just off the top of my head.

18 customer contacts on average in the adult business world to generate sales/close deals (certain products and services excluded of course).   It's hard to quantify what the multiplier is on that when dealing with 17-18 year old kids.

I would rather do that than base it off Rivals stars.

2Y's was a prince recruit.  I think CB Joshua Moore was a prince guy too.

For the purpose of negating the "Manhattan is impossible to recruit to," Prince's recruits were pretty good.  The lack of conditioning and commitment to racking up passing stats seemed to hurt the on-field results.

So was Leon Patton. That freshman year was great!

When judging in retrospect I'd  love to know a better way to judge talent on a particular player.

You know some of you people take recruiting way to seriously when you are talking up Ron Prince. He may have brought some of those players in but what did he do with them when he was here? oh and FYI Ian Campbell was a walkon Snyder brought in.

Also we have scholarships available, we need to be calling this guy right now.  http://247sports.com/Player/Riley-Cole-55369
