Domination
« on: February 14, 2011, 11:53:25 PM »
eFG% - KSU 62.5%, KU 47%.
TO% - KSU 23.4%, KU 26.4%.
OR% - KSU 45.5%, KU 36.7%.
FTR - KSU 60.4%, KU 58%.
Pace - 68.
Points per possession - KSU 1.23, KU 1.00.

KU came into the game leading the nation in eFG% at 58.8% and the Cats completely shut them down.  KU's defensive eFG% was #11 at 43.8%.  We took them to school on both ends, it was fun to watch. A joy.

Thank you Jake and Frank, among others.

This was basically K-State's "F you kougs" game. I enjoyed it immensely.

Wasn't the defense great?  I mean KU is really good at working the ball and getting open shots on the perimeter, but this game KSU was so great at closing out on the 3 pt shooters.  There was only a few times that they got us out of sorts and had open looks.  Luckily they made few of them.

The offense was nice, but this game was won on defense.  I have long wanted to see the Cats play great defense without fouling (especially halfcourt), and for the first time in a long while they did just that.  A great win, and a great performance buy the Cats.

The poise, the focus, NO LETUP.

EMAW.

I'm really, really happy right now, especially after that heartbreaker just two days ago.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Tonight is amazing to be a Cat fan. Simply amazing.

And yes, it was spectacular defense. KU had no answer, none.

Seemed like we rebounded the crap out of the ball too, especially defensively, keeping them off the o-glass. Numbers confirm?

KU missed some big threes. Dodged some bullets there.

Good point Kougs.  It has seemed in the past few games against KU, especially last year when we were the JYCs, that KU still just really dominated us inside on the boards, etc.  KU has been suspect with regards to toughness inside all year and the Cats took full advantage.  I think they really missed Robinson, who I think is a great player.

It's about rough ridin' time. The basketball gods have owed us on that score for awhile now.

this was a game that is going to move some kenpom numbers around a little.

before the game = 45th (.8583), o 76th (107.5), d 33rd (91.9).  can't wait for the update.

on ku's 3pt shooting, to the extent it wasn't luck, i think it was mostly a function of who was shooting.  morningstar and reed were 2-5, the rest of the team 1-10.  that included 6 attempts by morrises, taylor, little & releford.

Thanks _. I asked in another thread, but Pullen would be the first Q@ since ___________ to split (or better) at home against KU in his career?

Our perimeter D was outstanding tonight. I was surprised Knight didn't comment even more than he did about our excellent rotation to keep the opposite wings from getting open looks on skip passes. KU has absolutely murdered us with that in the past.

It really was.  It was great, the rotations and close outs were so precise.  What an effort.

Yep, ku has routinely destroyed us on that stuff, as well as moving around screens.

Also, I think we benefited from ku seemingly not having a player who can drive anywhere close to as well as Sherron Collins could.

I loved the token pressure we put on, and often it looked like we were going to fall back into our 3-2 or 2-3 zone, but it would turn almost into a match-up zone/switching man as they set their offense. Self never really had an answer.

Also loved how Bill tried to throw out his triangle and 2 against us and we would come down and destroy it.

Frank coached circles around Self tonight, just abused him.

Man, we destroyed it so bad I didn't even notice him pull out the Triangle and 2. Who was the other guy he manned up?
