apparently we are a DESTINATION JOB ... anyway more Lobo quotes:
Too many positives to bolt just because a big-6 school might call and offer more money where he'd have to start all over again.
He's not going anywhere.
There are no facts, there are no support for the rumors, nothing. Just complete speculation on the "journalists" part.
Let's see, Iowa City, college football town in the middle of the corn fields. The little apple, Manhattan, KS., college football town in the middle of the wheat fields. Alford's been there, done that. Coach Alford wants to build UNM to a nationally recognized respected program. Well on the way to doing that. Job not near finished, however.
K State wishes, nothing to see here, move along.
K-State is only looking to spend about 1.4 million based upon what I've heard. Is K-State so much more prestigious than UNM that such a minimal pay raise would cause Alford to bolt and start from scratch? I think not. Alford has been mentioned in Kansas papers as well. It's always funny when these writers from other states mention Alford. It's just like Oregon a couple of years ago... "Well, surely he'd much rather be here than New Mexico..." lol. The rest of the country is so clueless about what we have here that it would be funny if it wasn't so sad. I'd say ignorance is bliss, but they're the ones looking for a new coach because their AD is an idiot. Not so blissful. And, look at it this way... If South Carolina is a better job than K-State, then there's no question that New Mexico is a better job than K-State.
Like others have said I don't think we would be seeing Bryce Alford commit if he thought his Dad was going to leave anytime soon. It would have to be a dream job like Indiana or a destination job like a Kansas, Duke type scenario where Lobo fans couldn't really blame him for leaving. I may just be drinking too much of the Cherry Koolaid but I think coach is looking to make a long term legacy at UNM much like his mentor did at IU.
