I'd prefer a Gottleib circus to a Tad Boyle snorefest.

then stop naysaying! Goodness.

Goodness! I'm not naysaying. Gottlieb just has no chance. It's like calling for Stuart Scott or Chris Berman or Kevin Keitzman to be our next coach.

Why waste the effort?

Larry B. for two years or even one year wouldn't be a snorefest.  It would be fun to see what Larry could pull off with next year's team.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

First of all, he isn't anything like those people you mentioned.

Second of all, the effort is worth it because it will at least show the AD and Pres that we don't want to have a rough ridin' snoozefest for the next 5 years even if they can sneak us into the tourney.

It probably won't happen, but he's much more qualified than you're giving him credit for.

OK, maybe I should have used Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith instead.  Still.  Zero chance.  Waste of effort.

Gottlieb said he would be interested in the job because he thinks it is hilarious that anyone thinks he could actually get the job.  And he's right.  That's a big part of what makes him entertaining. He's smart. He's awesome.

I get the joke.

I'm disturbed that many of you don't.

I hate everyone who has posted in this thread who thinks a "meh" hire is okay.  And I will fight you if you aren't super fat to get out of your trailer.

Larry Brown is almost as far from a "meh" hire as you can get.

Coaches we could hire that would be less "meh" than Larry Brown:

Phil Jackson
Mike Krzyeshkjdfiijefski
Roy Williams
Bill Self
John Calipari
Bob Knight
Jim Boeheim
Billy Donavan
Pat Summit
Pat Riley
Michael Jordan
Larry Bird

... that's about it.

I don't think many people consider Larry Brown a 'meh' hire, but a 'meh' hire is indeed what we're all scared of.

It just so happened that a non-'meh' hire expressed interest in the job and whether you think it's a joke or not, it's fun to consider. The more momentum it picks up and the more media attention it gets, the more attractive the job becomes in my opinion so I'm not sure what the downside is  :dunno:

The real question isn't whether you are #teamBrown or #teamGottlieb, it's whether you are #teamSafe or #teamInteresting

Listen guys, I'm at the point where if we don't hire Gottlieb, I'm going to take this mother down. I mean seriously? Wtf does Currie have to lose after making an ass out of himself? The hire makes too much sense, so we'll end up with jank, and I will have to go off on the suits. DO THE RIGHT THING, DUMBFUCKS (msg to currie).

"Hi, my name is Currie. I know everyone in manhattan hates me right now, so what should I do? Hire a respect? Someone unqualified? Or choose what the fans what, and if that doesn't workout, I have a reason for the hire, right?"- Currie (What we want to believe)

"These dumbasses think I'll fold? Hey, bartender, give me and my friend boyle a shot/moutaindew asap, we're going to rough ridin' work some fillies."- Currie (What's really going on)

This works right into my Plan B.

If a horrible front runner leaks, we should spray paint DON'T BE STUPID, HIRE {horrible guy}! in his lawn.  There's no way he'd bend to the pressure of fans that would spray paint crap in his lawn.

Reverse psychology should not be ignored in these situations.

What you are missing is in the 2-3 years that Brown would be here taking us to final 4's before leaving/dying, Doug would be getting his shot at a high major.  Doug has been getting serious looks already from a lot of schools.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance KSU has here at a basketball commentator musing about breaking into the world of coaching.  Otherwise we're only a couple amazingly successful seasons away from being back here again.  Not like Larry Brown has a history of attracting good assistants.  We probably wouldn't even have an Undy type fall back plan at that point.

:dnr: but the summary was #gottlieb4KSU so I thought it was rough ridin' great.

:dr: was awesome and thought provoking.  basically we aren't in it to win an NC so there should be another goal.

what is that goal?  i'm not sure jrake answered.  but i think exposure and FUNdraising are up there.  excitement for the fans.  players to watch!

Our goal is to be as nationally relevant as humanly possible and to be as good at basketball as humanly possible. At this moment in time #Gottlieb4KSU brings the first to K-State in a big way. People keep talking risk, but its not more of a risk than hiring a Jank or Henson or even a Boyle. If K-State would be willing to make a splash hire like Mack or Pastner that's one thing, but I don't see it happening. The next best thing is to do something unconventional, and #Gottlieb4KSU is exactly that.

gottlieb is a  smart guy. he's obviously a winner in life. winners continue to do what winners do, and that's win.  they're smart enough and accustom enough that when they're put into a position to fail or succeed, they find a way to succeed.

some of you act like coaching college basketball is rocket science.  it's not.  you've just failed at life and are projecting your losery experiences onto others. you shouldn't do that.

guys...why do we do this to ourselves? there is literally no chance John Currie hires Doug, or anyone who doesn't have SLTH written all over them.

obviously its the best choice. but not a chance Currie pulls the trigger.

Steve Alford will recruit players like this...

... and totally ruin how adorable we are.
