I say we start calling our new coach Tad Boyle III. That sounds much better than just a Tad Boyle.

Tad Boyle, not going to be the coach of Kansas State University Wildcats Basketball. IMO. He's at "home"

Mack would be great but doubt we could get him. Has anybody thrown John Groce or Bobby Hurley's name out there?

Thoughts?

And all signs point to Groce at Illinois.

Yeah, Mack is #1 on my list. I don't see it happening, but that's my dream.

I'd look at Dunphy at Temple as well

I'm against hiring coaches who have demonstrated no ability to win in the postseason. Dunphy is awful. He's 2-14 all-time in the NCAA tournament. Since 2000, he's 1-10.

"True," you say. "But he also spent some time at Penn, and it's harder to win."

"True," I say. "But he's also 1-10 against the spread during that time, and the spread to some degree measures expectation."

That tells me Dunphy consistently underachieves and gags his brains out.

That's why I call him Fran One-and-Dunphy.

Fair enough. I just saw that he made 8 NCAAs in 10 years as a head coach.

Don't know if the call has already been made, but even if it's a short convo, hope Gregg Marshall is/was toward top of list. #kstate

I'd rather have a sister in a whore house than GM as our coach

would prefer a big timey assistant instead of some shitty midmajor piece of crap.  at least then I can pretend the coach is some amazing commodity and we're catching lightning in the bottle, even though i know its not true.

What about Tommy Amaker? He's done good things at Harvard.  It's got to be easier to recruit players to a University with much lighter standards and can actually give out basketball schollies.

I'm going to throw a name out there, and you guys will laugh, but it would be ...

a) a splash hire
b) hilarious
c) awesome

Jay Bilas.

From TheBigLead:

Perhaps the most interesting nugget Bilas revealed on the subject of coaching was that he has had “a few” coaching offers in recent years, including one he came very close to accepting. When pressed on the topic, he said, “I probably shouldn’t have said that,” and refused to elaborate. To satiate his coaching desire, Bilas coaches some of the best high school players in the nation at the NIKE skills academy every summer.

Any interest in #KSU4Bilas?

Not sure if this will help you guys, but maybe it will once you calm down a bit: be patient, let some things happen, you may feel better

Ya thats a little much just saying if we are going to get someone we want it looks like $2mil would be the going rate.

I agree on $2 mil as the rate (minimum) to get a decent coach in here.

Not only that, but he's very involved with the academic folks at Harvard.  He's kind of an egg head.

Which is totally cool.  If I made a crap ton of money coaching at Harvard and got to rub elbows with their faculty, it would be pretty elite.
