What is the cheapest smartphone/smartphone plan for a 14 year old

just went thru this for myself as my iPhone 6 just wouldn't hold out until the 15s show up so I bought this $250 from Best Buy and it seems decent

HOWEVER as a father of teenagers you really should get them an iPhone so they can do FaceTime with friends

also so they don't get dunked on by their friends for destroying the group chat by not having imessage.

This is so true. My family is too poor for iPhones but we scraped up some cash to get some cheap refurbished iPhones so they wouldn't be outcasts.

(Although my daughter is now running a group chat for her swim team using WhatsApp, because she's inclusive of all and also very worldly)

our baseball team uses groupme because there is an absolute shitload of people on the chat

What brand you got mich?  It's basically either Google or LG if it isn't the big two I would think?

My wife and I have google pixels and have for years. They're great for what I use my phone for.

my experience with both PC and android are certainly that they don't a lot of the time. and googling work arounds and fixes and whatnot and figuring out how to make things sync and talk and reboot and whatever. that may have changed recently but I have no reason to believe it has or to have any incentive to save a few bucks to find out. that said, apple people aren't the ones melting down about apple products and I fully encourage all phone types and ecosystems and whatever to just keep vibing with what you like (unless you try to enter the group chat in which case eff YOU)

I know I don't need to know any of that crap and apple just takes care of it for me.

I can see how this works for many people. Personally, I wish I had much more freedom and versatility than I do now (even at the cost of doing more work). The phone should be doing what I want it to do, not me doing what it wants me to do.

My only reasons (and they’re huge ones) to use iPhone are integrated face time and most importantly iMessage.

I wish Samsung developed something similar for Android, even if it had to be proprietary to just their devices. Sending a 15 second video that is so pixelated you can barely make out a face is crazy. Thats why I left android 3 or 4 years ago.
