So, my phone died Friday night. My friend (let's call him Brad Cook) had to order my Uber home from his phone. Apparently, my phone fell out of my pocket in the Uber. Realized it immediately, but there was nothing I could do about it until the next day, as I hadn't ordered the Uber from my account.
Neither Brad nor Uber had any luck reaching the driver about it. Meanwhile, I realized just how unlivable life is without a phone. I can't access my work network w/o two-factor authentication, which requires a phone. So, no way to work or check work e-mails without a phone. Also, getting things delivered is a real challenge, as I have to use my phone to let people through security. Broke down and dropped a stimulus check on a new phone today. Thought about getting an iPhone 11 but went with the Galaxy S20 (to own the libs).
I remain mildly optimistic that I'll get my phone back, but in my experience when you report a missing phone to Uber, the driver responds immediately, and you pay the driver a small fee to drop it off. (I had never lost my phone before, but I've been around others who had.) This feels like "The First 48," and each passing moment diminishes the likelihood that I'll ever get it back. But, at least I have a phone and I can work. Yayyy.
