i actually heard the reverse.  self had a ticket in hand, told robinson to go take care of his sister and family.  robinson was like, "meh, i'm good".

Would the university pay for the average student to fly home for a funeral?

These kinds of threads are why I debate leaving this sh*thole of a board for good from time to time.  It's one thing to be passionate about your school and your favorite team, but it's another thing to make fun of a kid for losing his mother to a heart attack.  I don't care if it's the internet... I don't care if your life sucks and this is the only place you can show the world how much of an bad person you are.  Have some common decency.

OregonHawks' feewings are hurt because UT was immune to Phog Allen officiating. It was an off night for the refs.

Second, he or she also knows that deep down...he just wanted T Rob to play and really could care less about his Mom, and rather, he cares much more deeply about the team...but, in order to make us feel bad and win an argument, they wear their heart on their sleeve in a false act of human compassion.

Sickening really.

We care about dead 37 yr old single moms in this country... As long as their son plays sports.

Can we all admit that almost everything people have said about this is pretty disingenuous?  Fescoe would not know of/care about this person if not for his love of KU sports.  Other fans if only to tweak.  Royals review with a tree falls in the forrest tweet.

Hard to say if anyone other than T-Rob and his kin have any genuine and altruistic sentiments about the death.  Not sure which is ultimately a more defensible response.  Mocking death, the inevitable fate of every man, or feigning a sincere response for some ulterior end.

Holden Caulfield/Oprah split here methinks.

Go cats.

Regarding Thomas Robinson: Dear God, please let this young man be now. And let his family, team and KU nation circle around him until he has made his peace with his terrible loss.

Rock Chalk!

"Poem for Thomas Robinson"

People tell me it is just a game
That it is just young men bouncing a ball
That I am a fool to love this game
And those in it as I do
But these people have not heard of
Thomas Robinson
They do not know that he
Lost his mother and
Wept with his teammates
And played a game for
His team--my team--
For reasons that
Should forever remain
His alone to know

These people do not know
That this game really is life
And death
And everything
In between

Not the wins and losses
Not the records and statistics
Not the rings, not the
Disappointments and
Exhaltations!

This game has woven through
It the lives of human beings and
All the gain and loss they endure

Basketball is what we share
Amidst the incomprehensible
Losses in life
Deep in the near infinite
Sorrows that afflict us as we
Walk through the dream and
Nightmare that is each human life

Because we come together
For a season of play
We share the death of heroes
And the birth of children
And the fury of jealousy
And the endless getting
Better in the relentless
Loss.

And we are reminded
That there are those among
Us that are asked to bear too
Much--more than any should
Have to bear and that our
Duty is to love them and
And live and act in ways that
Say there is community
In this world
Not just joy and loss

That this game is
Not the community
But that the community
Is woven through this
game and that as such
Each unbearable loss is shared by
Each of us in some small way
And that this sharing
Does indeed spread
Life's too terrible burdens
Around among us and
Lighten, if only slightly
The burden of that
One person who has
Lost beyond bearing.

I have suffered grave losses
That have been been shared
By this community without its
Knowledge and so I know
That Thomas Robinson's
Terrible loss will be shared
In ways that neither Thomas
Nor this community will know

That is the nature of a
Living myth
It sustains the living
As it respects the dead
Even when one is unaware.

i wasn't making fun of him either.  i was just expressing surprise that comforting his nine year old sis after their mom died was less important to him than playing basketball on nat'l tv.
