Will would be the best walk on to ever play in the Big 12 if he were a walk on. He's on scholarship because he deserves one. It will be fun laughing about this next year when Will is hitting shots again.

Give his minutes to 'Tay this year, though.

Yeah, Conner is a better shooter than Will but is far worse at everything else.

A little bit, but it's not like Teahan is some elite shooter; he's hitting 33% in league games as a 5th year SR.

Teahen is a mediocre player. Yet he has a higher FG% and 3pt% than Sprawling. And he averages about a bucket less a game than Sprads. Funny though, he only plays 20mins a game.  Not 32.  And you certainly won't ever see him play 39mins.

Guess Teahens coach just knows how to use him.  Not all coaches are so gifted.

That's actually not a bad comparo (minus the dunks).

2. It's clear Frank loves (LOVES) and trusts Sprads a lot, so get used to him playing a lot. Even if shooting terrible.

i guess if we are going to have to live this we should start asking why Spradling is so trusted?

does it come down to his reliability - on defense & offense - to always be in the right place?

or is Frank living with his shortcomings because he believes he's always believed in the importance of a team leader and thinks Spradling is his best option?

even though Spradling has not shot the ball well it's not like anyone else off the bench is a huge upgrade.  who brought up the point that we are not better w/ him sitting?

Jones injury impact might also be a factor in Spradling's playing time.

i'm not sure who did, but i'd check here

if you look at their stats, and their games, they're bros in ball.  (dunks excluded).

I think Frank likes having two ball handlers on the court as much as possible. He tried to give Tay PG minutes back in November (much to the chagrin of Belvis)

If you don't want CSU to go on a 25-2 run going into halftime, maybe you should tweak the lineup or the offense.  Maybe a lineup of Jeremy Jones, Martavious Irving, Vic Ojeley, Omare Lawrence, and Thomas Gipson isn't a sensible combination.

^Really, that is a nice thread to revisit

i thought spradling was really good at getting through screens in the first half.  i didn't pay attention to him in the 2nd, so i don't know if his defense slipped.  i didn't have a sense that he was playing poorly though.

was surprised that he hit either of his 3s.  thought he rushed both.

Sprads is known for taking charges, but he also a lot of fouls cutting off of screens. Seems to get a hold call on a defender 2 or 3 times a game away from the ball.

Its clear that the Frank trust issues go to a lot of things we never see; attention to scouting reports, etc. Granted, his physical limitations get him in trouble (I was very anxious when I saw him matched up on Turner), but he does the little thing that Frank or any other coach look for consistently. When he finds his shot (likely next year) he will mainly be forgotten about by fans.

I felt good for him after he hit the threes.

will's athleticism and skill level are akin to an average walk-on athlete.

No one has been as critical of Will than I, but I have to say this is absurd.  I follow high school basketball closely and I can't begin to tell you how off base you are.

Ok, obviously I'm exagerating to a certain degree.  But I do believe that he's a bit overwhelmed by BigXII size and talent.

Spradling should be a nice role player for our team.  In a non-BCS conference, he might even be a star.  There's simply no reason that he should lead the team in minutes alongside Grudes.  He just doesn't contribute enough.  And, eff my face, am I the only one that watched Christopherson dress Spradling up in a Clown Suit in the OOD?  That was embarrasing even for a casual fan.

I hate to rain on the Christopherson talking point, but he is 5th year senior in his third year of starting. That type of player will have those types of games. Being white doesn't make him a bad player. Yes, Sprads could have done better, but I don't think his performance against ISU means he isn't athletic enough for Big 12 competition at all.

Why not, he did a great job in Stillwater.

Also, Frank called him out after the game for his defense against Christopherson.

Dude, did I say he was bad because he's white?  The guy is a decent player.  Averages about 10ppg.  He dropped 30 on Spradling.

He's averaging 14/game in conference play and dropped 25 on OU two games before ours. He's not some scrub - your perception is skewed because he's white.

Yes, Sprads could have done better, but I don't think his performance against ISU means he isn't athletic enough for Big 12 competition at all.

Have you ever seen Spradling turn the corner on a high ball screen and take it all the way to the rack?  And not get swatted like a bitch?  No.  In fact, have you ever seen him take it all the way to the rack from anywhere on the floor and not get swatted like a bitch?  No.

Have you ever seen him split a zone with dribble penetration?  No.

Have you ever seen him do to another player what Christopherson did to him?  No.

Have you ever seen him dribble 4 ft., pull the ball back and swing the ball around in the triple-threat position for 4 seconds until another player pops open for a pass?  Yes.  Seems like just about every possession of every conference game I've seen this year.

Like I said, he'd be great as a zone busting 3-pt specialist or as a reserve 2 guard.  I'd like to see him play about 20 mpg and average about 7-8ppg.

I could see Will actually playing well if we were to play ISU in the Phillips 66

I agree he should be playing less, but again, nothing you list means he is physically overwhelmed by Big 12 athletes. I mean he played over 20 minutes/game and averaged 7ppg as a freshman in Big 12 games. It's stupid to think that is his ceiling.
