Other Technology companies do the same thing . . . several of whom are monsters in their particular sectors, they're just not househould names on the level of Apple.
I think it's BS . . . BUT . . . it's their $hit and they can do whatever they want . . . all the 
is driven by petty jealousy because these companies have been smarter and more business savvy then their competitors.
The thing about those other companies is that they usually offer a product that is far superior to their competitors, so the consumer has no real choice. Apple is unique because while they do offer quality products, they are not always clearly superior to the competition at the same price point. Apple fans will continue to buy their products no matter how expensive, restrictive, or in some cases inferior they are.
