Football is, and should be, a physical game.  But you have to make an attempt to not lead with the helmet, and the KU guy didn't do that.  It could've probably gone either way, mainly b/c you could've said he was knocked off by the terrible block by Quarles enough to not warrant the call, but I can see why it was flagged.

It was called by the ref farther down the field, not by the closest one(LRIQ) if i remember correctly.

It actually looked to me like Quarles was trying to block him to the outside, but he intentionally ran around it and made the helmet to helmet. It was a good call.

This topic is on the call in general, not the specific call last night (which was totally gay)

I can see why it was called, but I didn't think it was intentional and I didn't think he led with the crown of his helmet. Sometimes your helmets are going to hit. It doesn't always mean the player is "targeting". In this case I thought he should've got the flag for being a dumbass and flexing down 31-0. The ref should've phrased it that way too.

LOL -- The point was that he was able to run around it enough to make the contact, and was not pushed into the receiver.

Quarles should feel like crap for letting it happen in the first place.  He owes him a beer or 6 for that.

My thought was Thompson is only 5'7" it would be hard to not hit him in the head.  I didn't think it was dirty.

the reason why it was a bitch move is the angle of attack.  The KU guy lowered his head.  This is poor tackling form, but also puts both plays in danger.  Thompson with a head injury and the KU guy with a spinal issue.

Exactly. When I played football back in the day I was wicked short like 5'-5". Would get hit in the head all the time when a guy would lower his head and lead with his helmet the top of his helmet would almost always hit my facemask. If the dude had decent form and would tackle correctly his facemask would hit mine, or he would wrap up my legs. That moron from ku made an illegal hit then tried to act awesome while being down 31.
