Another hater??

The Pac-10 doesn't want Kansas. The Big Ten doesn't seem wholly interested. The Jayhawks are, for the moment, on the outside of conference expansion looking in. Which says a lot more about conference expansion than it does the Kansas Jayhawks.

What's insane about this scenario -- OK, there's a lot insane about this scenario, but let's start here -- is the teams that would be left behind. There's Baylor, a rising hoops program under coach Scott Drew. There's Kansas State, a rising hoops program under Frank Martin. There's Iowa State, which is a traditionally proud hoops program currently mired in the rebuilding muck.

Really . . . is ku worth it??

Sure ku brings some significant clout in basketball.  But as I said in another thread, no TV guy is going to up the money another 25% or 50% in a conference like the Big 10 when they've already got plenty of noted programs just because ku is in the conference.   UCLA as OKC said doesn't want ku around, neither does Washington . . . plus schools likely note that ku basketball has been placed on probation five times, tied for most in the NCAA D1 ranks.   They're possibly looking at more NCAA issues depending on how this DOJ/IRS/FBI deal turns out.

They bring nothing to the table on the football side that the other potential new members EXCEPT Missouri and Baylor (which is blackmail deal anyway essentially) don't blow out of the water.

I think the answer is to have seperate conferences for football and the rest of the redefined "non-revenue sports" -a category in which men's basketball now fits.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Remember Kansas? You know, one of the nation's premier hoops programs, a veritable cradle of the game, the place that employed James Naismith as its head basketball coach a mere six years after the Canadian doctor wrote the sport's first official rules, and a place that has pretty much done nothing but win at basketball since? The team that plays in one of college hoops' most revered fieldhouses and the site of many a basketball pilgrimage each winter? Yeah, that Kansas.

We are, however, a little bit sad. No one wants Kansas? The Kansas? Really?

College basketball die-hards may understand the cold reality of conference expansion. But that doesn't make it any less insane.

The emphasis should be on Kansas not "the".   No one cares about hicktown/flyover country, even if they can hoop it up on occasion.

The problem Tardville has is the over inflated image they have of themselve caused by the KC media bowing to their bandwagon fanbase that has grown larger due to the Royals and Chiefs pretty much sucking.   If the Royals and Chiefs were consistantly good, ku would have a lot fewer bandwagon fans.

Living away from kc as I have for nearly 2 decades, I can say that while the medium to hardcore college basketball fans are fully aware of ku, they recognize ku as being a top basketball school . . . but very few if any are dropping everything to watch ku play . . .  around here as one would expect it's all ACC . . .  when I travel on business down the Southeast its all SEC .   Yeah, you find the hardcore guys that know all about ku, but to the general SEC/ACC populace . . . they really don't give a $hit about ku, just like they really don't give a $hit about K-State either.   I deal a lot with people up in the heart of Big 10 country . . . they're all Big 10 all the time, they don't care about the Big 12, they don't give a crap about ku basketball unless either/or directly impacts one of their favorite Big 10 teams, just like they don't care about K-State.

It's exactly how we are to teams like ohio state.  Do any of us give a flying eff about ohio state unless we're playing them? Hell no.  And Ohio  St football is 5x what KU bball is.

I agree Doom . . . us college football following Elites follow Ohio State.   But to the general Big 12 populace, nobody cares all that much.   Probably better it's left to the Elites.

I don't watch any other team other than K-State, I could care less what happens to Ohio St. or Texas in any of their games.
I might watch some pro games with K-Staters (Heat, Chargers) every now and then.
