Rolling out today for the spring maiden voyage. I've missed riding but I dislike riding below 55/60F.

Been going down a rabbit hole of watching Unbound Gravel 2025 videos on YouTube. The 350mi (XL) winner averaged 19+ MPH for the ride. The top of the 200 mi field averaged over 23 MPH for the race.  Really amazing endurance athletes:

they might be aliens. genetically abnormal for sure.

Have a couple friends starting off on the Tour Divide friday, looking forward to following along that crazy stuff. I was happy to hit 2000 miles for the year so far, and they will be riding more than that over 2 weeks

Amazing. That is a ton of riding.
I watched this POV video last night. It is insane to me how fast they are riding in crowded conditions, esp on narrow downhills with loose gravel, rocks, mud.

Thinking about getting a bike since moving to NWA but I probably won't.

I've probably posted about it before, but rode McKenzie pass last weekend before it opens to cars. I don't have a road bike, but it's a beautiful ride without traffic. The squiggly line on the left is fun to bomb down. About seven miles, 2000 feet vertical.

Mt Washington and my road bike.

A couple weeks ago, trail ride up to the snow line.

Some hiking, climbing over downed trees to get to the view point. I can almost see my house from here!

That's fantastic.

I've been a lazy old man this year. My miles are far too low for it to be June.

Interesting concept for a youtube video. If they were looking for a "solid commuter bike" any bike shop sells one for $500ish. (I'm sure these guys know that, they just wanted to make a video that would get engagement).
The best $300 you can spend on outdoor gear is the difference between a $200 department store bike and an entry-level "bike shop" bike - Trek, Specialized, Kona, whatever -- it is just a quantum leap in quality and enjoyability between those two. Even with $1K in component upgrades, that Huffy frame weighs more than an M1 Abrams tank.

Went to Haddam, KS this morning where they were holding the Haddam Hounds Hundy (100k) gravel ride this morning. I opted for the “Half Hound” 50k ride. Finished in 2:38. Grabbed some B and G and a Busch Light at the Haddam Cafe for recovery after the ride. 10/10 recommend.
