Pretty amazing stories coming out of this.

So far, only some pretty awful dictators and other government officials have been implicated in the money laundering (i.e., tax evasion and criminal) scheme.  Allegedly, however, 17 fortune 500 companies were also involved in the criminal entity vehicle.  Will be interesting to see what U.S. government and private individuals were involved. Hopefully some hypocrites are outed.

Yes and no.  Some of this is business as usual in some places.  Some other places you might start to find evidence of money laundering and kickbacks that are illegal.  Forinstance there appear to be some example of Russian characters where people were awarded government constructions contracts and those builders or associates received hundreds of millions of dollars.

There was a Russian example of the rights to a $2B loan being sold to some other Russian for $1(US).  I would say there is some shady crap going on.  Also, the law firm in question denies those involved even being customers and/or saying the leaked docs are fakes.  They are def doing some CYA.

One of the stories I read referenced the laundering of the proceeds from a $40 million gold bullion heist in the UK circa 1983.
