New Big12 schedule rule
« Reply #25 on: December 08, 2015, 03:42:37 PM »
would be a good incentive for Texas to pick up it's rivalry with A&M, KU could try and schedule Mizzou every year at Arrowhead, etc.

No it wouldn't, UT is taken care of with this rule through 2024, and in 2027.

I think it should be bumped up to 2 p5 teams.

Maybe but I would settle for dropping FCS schools next

I don't see anything wrong with playing an FCS school.  A lot of those games aren't the blowouts they once were, and if they are, it gives the bigger school a chance to get playing time for a lot of players.  And the FCS school gets a good payday that they wouldn't otherwise get, and I'm sure they enjoy getting to face one of the bigger schools.  If we're gonna be playing 10 P5 games, 1 FCS game is fine by me.

Let teams schedule FCS schools that want to schedule FCS schools. I really don't like conferences dictating what schools do with their non conference schedules. What's good for Ohio State isn't good for Purdue. I also don't like that the FCS schools are not getting that revenue. What do you do when you're faced with a problem like North Carolina had when they got bought out, thought they could find a FBS opponent, then couldn't?

FCS schools give flexibility to the schedule to find a quick fix if a series falls through or someone cancels.  Also, if we start doing a bunch of home/home P5 schedules, and pretty much every G5 school dictates some sort of 2:1 deal (i.e. UTSA), seven home games is hard to come by.  You can schedule as best you can, but the only way you can almost guarantee seven home games per year in this environment is to schedule FCS.

I think the NCAA should manage all OOC scheduling.

Even though they don't run FBS college football?

I think if you have more FBS opponents looking for other FBS opponents, this problem will be much less likely.  I agree that Kansas shouldn't have the same scheduling philosophy as Oklahoma but the worst of the Sun Belt or whatever is plenty bad enough for them to play.

Personally, I would like for FCS teams to scrimmage in April against FBS teams and they can get their pay day that way.  The Spring Games get much better as there is actually a little bit of relevancy, attendance would probably improve but the game would not count on anyone's record.

Could help them in the long run.  This will probably catch on in the other P5 conferences, and if KU is smart they'll start a bidding war among teams for the privilege to play the easiest P5 opponent of all.  KU just needs to pocket that money over 5-10 years and then they can put a down payment on reasonable facilities and maybe even start paying for a decent coach.
