Cook should/will be the qb from here on out.

Burton should have had 3tds on long pass plays

The blue hairs around were furious with Burton "not running it out" on both plays like it was his fault they overthrew him by 10 yards.

I didn't watch after the first quarter so I can't comment on the others, but the first wide open deep miss was clearly on Burton. He looked like an outfielder watching like it was an obvious home run only to have it land in front of the warning track.

So you watched on TV? That ball was overthrown by a mile, he stumbled trying to speed up, but even if he did he wasn't catching that ball. The overthrow was acceptable simply because it was the first deep throw and Hubener was throwing with the wind. He's been playing QB for like 20 minutes it wasn't an easy throw.

It might have been overthrown anyway, but Burton had pulled up long before he could tell where the ball was going. He got past the defense then slowed down and started looking for the ball. By the time he found it and tried to speed up again he had no shot.

very discouraging game for sure.  i stopped watching at 28-0.  i can't imagine why anyone would want to subject themselves to watching the last 2.5 quarters of that game.

I was watching to see if the not-getting-shutout streak lived  :flush:

Yeah man trying to find the ball is part of running 50 yards down field. Do you expect the guys to run sprinters speed and never look up for the ball and just expect it to magically appear in their arms? The ball was overthrown, Burton did part of his job by getting open, he wasn't allowed to do the second part of his job.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same play because he was only about 15-20 yards past the line of scrimmage and just stopped running about the same instant the ball was thrown. Like I said, he played it like an OF who thought it was a HR only to have it drop before the warning track.

I expect a wide receiver to keep running their route while looking for the ball not stop so the QB who isn't accurate in the first place would have to be psychic to know where he's going to be.

He absolutely stopped running downfield.  I don't think he knew what to do being open like that. He probably would have dropped  it anyway.  That's the difference between good teams and bad teams.  If that play is connected for a touchdown, it is a different game.  Hubes would have had confidence, Stoops wouldn't be able to just suck everybody up to the line of scrimmage, but it confirmed that we can't connect deep routes, so there is no reason not to crowd the line of scrimmage on defense.

I'm sad to say it was the first time I've ever left a game early.

And i've stayed until the end at blowouts of Iowa State in the rain and snow.
