Well what do you know, thanks bones.  I guess I have just have never noticed in other parks before, maybe better incorporated into design of the field elsewhere or I'm just oblivious.

Backgrounds are more conspicuous in minor league parks because so many of those venues don't have outfield seats/stands. So, the backgrounds stick out like sore thumbs. Major league parks tend to blend backgrounds into the outfield stands, often by using dark walls or tarps.

The old-timeyest of old-timey ballparks. Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.  It was the home of Houston's rookie league franchise the Pittsfield Astros the only time I ever went there (2001). The grandstand is wooden and has an overhanging roof. It's also the only place I've ever caught a t-shirt at event other than the Salina Speedway.

The park has a wikipedia page, which said it was built in 1919.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

The blue picture from the outside is more what it looked like when I went there.

Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium, Norwich, Connecticut.

Dodd Memorial was the home of Yankees AA affiliate the Norwich Navigators from 1995-2009. I had the pleasure of attending two baseball games here in 2001 as well. The highlight of my spectatorship here was getting to watch Jose Canseco perform unspectacularly in a rehab assignment. He was prob juiced to the max and was very large.

The stadium itself seemed very nice and they obviously had put a lot of money in it at the time.

I think a Giants affiliate plays there now.

Syracuse Chiefs are my favorite- Tonya Uncle took me as a kid so it holds a special place in my heart as my first ever minor league game.

they also sell these-

I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

I would enjoy going to minor league games more if they had something exciting going on on the field.  Like a football game. Or soccer.

Maybe mir can answer this: was there a Mets minor league team around the Massachusetts summer camp area? I remember going to a game and seeing the Mets logo, but don't remember anything else

Yeah the Pittsfield Mets were a rookie league team that played in that same gross, moldy, garbage-y stadium that nicname posted about. I'm surprised that you would know them from that though, they left in like 2000 or 2001.

Brooklyn Cyclones stadium. (Technically KeySpan Park.)

Pretty great location, right next to the Coney Island boardwalk and amusement park. Games are generally cool even on hot summer nights due to the ocean breeze. The original Nathan's Hot Dogs stand -- home of the 4th of July hot dog eating contest -- is between the subway exit and the stadium entrance, so obviously that's what you eat when you visit.

Three facts: When the Cyclones came to Brooklyn in 2001, they were the first professional baseball team in Brooklyn since the Dodgers left. The manager of the team at one time was the Royals' first base coach who got stabbed by those hooligan White Sox fans during the game a few years ago. A friend of mine threw out the first pitch there once, and since she was pretty unathletic I helped her practice her form a couple days ahead of time. (Fourth fact: She bounced the ball, but did pretty well!)
