I really think this trade deal is going to be great . . .
« on: June 04, 2015, 09:50:57 AM »
and I want to thank the Republicans and the Obama Administration for (likely) ramming this thing through.

When of all entities, Forbes Magazine is writing articles warning about implications of the privacy provisions regarding the offshoring of private and personal information as it pertains to a TRADE deal, you've got some red flags.

I guess the Internet of Scary Things is going to get here even faster.   Fantastic

We live in strange times indeed when I'm opposed to Paul Ryan and cheering for Nancy Pelosi. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/06/nancy-pelosi-president-obama-trade-118941.html

I mean, that's pretty mumped up, right?
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

The tea party radio hosts are largely misinformed (or just spreading misinformation) about the trade thing so I wouldn't be surprised if ksuw had a little of that going on  :frown:

Isn't this thing still a secret except for a few high ranking house and senate members?

Approval of fast-track would give Mr. Obama the authority to submit trade deals to Congress for an up-or-down vote without amendments, as previous presidents have done. Such power would ease passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a deal among the U.S. and 11 other nations to liberalize trade across nearly 40% of the world economy.

So he can negotiate a deal and put it to Congress for a vote, just like every president since FDR has done?

I heard it had a bunch of immigration stuff tucked inside making it easier to import foreign tech workers to replace American jobs. Tough to verify because the bill was secret - I thought bills had to published of public record before they could be voted on?

Are they voting on the trade deal or are they just voting on the fast track that would give Obama the authority to negotiate a trade deal and then bring it to them for a later vote?

they aren't approving the trade deal with this vote, necessarily.

The document is classified. Only members of Congress and staffers with security clearance can access it. And they can't make copies or even carry their own handwritten notes out the door.

This is how trade negotiations work. Fearful that they'll undercut their own negotiators, leaders of the countries involved don't want the details of what they're hashing out revealed until the full package is completed. And it's at the heart of the biggest criticism opponents of the deal have made publicly: the secrecy surrounding it.

also the immigration trojan horse thing is a big breitbart thing so yeah
