College Football - Gambling
« on: July 27, 2014, 12:00:15 AM »
Hello. I'm looking for help to invent, or steal, a way to progressively bet on the upcoming college football season. You see, my bros and I want to bet on weekly games, accumulating points (money?), and at the end of the season winner takes all kinda scenario. Does such a system exist already?  :dunno:

Is this an awful idea? Would weekly payouts make more sense? I dunno, basically I'm looking for a way for old married dudes with kids to watch football and throw cash around like the good old days. This is probably an awful thread but whatevs.

Not an awful thread. Fear the beard. Anything that is fun is a good idea. I dunno how it feels to have only married friends with kids, but I imagine it's still about having fun. Agree on the simplest rules possible, that is the only advice I have. Because it will make it more fun.

Are we at risk of establishing some sort of illegal gambling platform here?  Hope not, but   :dunno:

I wonder how much money you would have at the end of the season if you placed a $100 bet on the first K-State game (spread not o/u) and then half of whatever you have left on every game the rest of the season (assuming of course that you win the first bet).

This... or, just use the "Yahoo Pick 'em" thingy to run your contest.  The problem with that is, it requires picking too many games each week and you can't choose which games it includes on a week by week basis.  However, the record keeping for it would be virtually non existant and people can make picks through their online software.

If I were do set one up for CFB, I'd do it like the "Hilton Contest" for NFL.  Have a set entry fee, decide payout before, (Winner takes all, 50/30/20, etc.) use opening lines each week, make picks on any 5 games of your choice (sides only, no totals), 2 pts for correct pick, 1 pt for push, 0 for loss.   Much better format than Yahoo, but would require somebody to do a bunch of extra work sending out opening lines and keeping the spreadsheet.  Could likely keep it via GoogleDocs and create a login for all, tho?

Bookie, yes. On the right track. OMG, what do BITB, Leabo and Danny do every Friday? Like bet 1,2,3 or 10 on the provided games?  :surprised:

Weekly payouts and then winner take all at the end of the reg season? Oh man we might be on to something.

No reason to reinvent the wheel. There's plenty of handicapping contests out there. Find one you like and either copy it, or piggy back it with your group.

I think they have 10 points total to spread over 3ish games based on their confidence. Then just running total for the season. Seems like a good time and adds a variable over just pick team a or b

Some bros and I did this exact thing last college football season. It was a ton of fun, will do again.

We used a pretty simple Google Form to submit five picks per week, then tracked everyone's score in a Google Spreadsheet. Took about five minutes to set up.
