Fiesta Bowl Week Kangaroo ADV
« on: December 29, 2012, 09:48:03 PM »
I remember looking up when it was 20-9 and feeling pretty good. Angel and Tay were out, but the Cats were still efficiently beating a bad UMKC team (and they are really bad). Shooting over 50% (which is all I really wanted to see from this game) and forcing all kinds of TOs. It seemed the Cats were on the way to an easy win.

1st 9 Min   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KSU   14   1.39   57.7%   20.8%   50.0%   46.2%
Opp   14   0.63   40.0%   55.6%   57.1%   20.0%

Then some of the ugliest basketball I've ever seen happened.

If I split out the final 4-5 minutes when K-State finally stretched a 1 possession game into a 9 point lead the numbers would be even uglier. Missed lay-ups and 5 footers. Post players not attacking. Clanked FTs. More clanked FTs. Missed open 3 point jumpers. More missed lay-ups.

During those last 31 minutes K-State shot 26.3% against a team that was allowing teams to shoot 55.6% coming in, which ranked 336th out of 347 D1 teams in eFG% defense.

Ouch.

Last 31   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KSU   44   0.73   26.3%   18.3%   44.4%   62.5%
Opp   44   0.80   36.8%   25.1%   33.3%   26.3%

K-State nearly pulled out an unheard of ADV stat line; having forced TO%, OR%, and FTR all HIGHER than their eFG%. It would've been a true feet. To have the margins in the those 3 categories that K-State had over UMKC and still win by single digits was pretty amazing.

Total   Pace   PPP   eFG%   TO%   OR%   FTR
KSU   59   0.89   34.0%   18.7%   45.2%   58.5%
Opp   59   0.75   37.5%   32.4%   38.2%   25.0%

Oh well, grinder win, etc.

It is hard to appreciate just how casual this team has become on the court until you see it in person.

Meh.

This is a game that was skewed completely by horrid shooting.

Our AVE 2PT% is 44.6% (which is bad) and FT% is 67% (also bad); if we just shot our AVE in those 2 categories we would've scored 12-14 more points. That's not some outlandish "what if", our shooting was that bad. We've had some bad shooting games this season, but the 34% from tonight will probably be our worst shooting game of the year. OR% was slightly disappointing, but everything else we did was solid.

Its not okay to be satisfied with a terrible performance, and I'm certainly not. But its also fair to look at what we did tonight, without 2 of our top 8 players, and realize that terrible shooting made a big difference. A week from not is when I really want to see what this team can do again, these games against terrible teams really don't tell you anything in late December and its no use to overreact either way. JMHO.

I'm going to have the great grandmother of meltdowns if we lose a conference game and the forward minute distribution looks like this:

Williams 32
Southwell 26
Gipson 24
Lawrence 22
Henriquez 12
Johnson 4
Diaz 3

Emape played more minutes than JO, DJamer, and Adrian combined and most of his minutes were on the court with Nino and Shane.  Nino getting 8 more minutes than Gip and 20 more than JO is a crime.  The guards being out should have produced more minutes for our bigs but somehow there were less minutes for them.  It is far too late in the season for oscar to be yo-yoing minutes from game to game like he's doing.

I would think he'd go to Vista first, then head to Freddy's for the chicken nuggets nightcap.

Good points. oscar really likes the smaller lineups, but last Saturday shows that a big key to winning league games well be JO on defense.

you would think that, as would most rational people. I'm just assuming oscar has a drug-addict like dependency on chicken nuggets, hence why he has to stop at Freddy's first.

Good point. If it was, indeed, Freddy's first and then Vista, he may have returned to Freddy's for more chicken nuggets. They may even have take-home chicken nuggets.
