Commentators in Last week's Oregon St. game
« on: October 17, 2012, 11:56:32 AM »
I know this is delayed, just remembered it, but did anyone else here them talking about how the job the Oregon St. head coach has done is better than what Snyder did in Manhattan because Corvallis is more difficult to get people to come to and it has an ocean on one side while Manhattan has land on all sides to recruit from?

While I agree, Manhattan is basically Shangri La West, was Oregon St. ever anywhere near as bad as we were right before Snyder?

Thought it was pretty stupid if them. This should go in the shoulder chip thread.

I think there's a lot of validity to that. The Pacific Northwest is pretty isolated.

Yeah, I thought bordering California would be helpful to them though. Maybe Northern California recruiting sucks?  :dunno:

There's basically no one living in California north of San Francisco, and Corvallis is a ten hour drive from SF. I mean, Manhattan is closer to most of the Texas population centers and Denver and just as close to Chicago.

Maybe recruiting location wise but in terms of tradition/facilities/support I can't imagine there was ever a worse place than K-State in the late eighties.

Riley has done a good job at Oregon State, but he hasn't achieved anything close to what Snyder has accomplished at K-State.  Riley's best season was 10-4, which is his only year with double digit wins.  After that he has a few eight and nine win seasons and a bunch of losing records.
