Sometimes high school football prospects want to stay close to home to play their college ball; sometimes they want a change of venue. In the case of Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge High School defensive end Chase Rome, the four-star prospect who isn't letting his proximity to his hometown school factor too heavily into his college choice.

He may opt to play at Mizzou or he may land at another Big 12 school, including Kansas State.

Columbia, Mo., defensive end Chase Rome is a four-star prospect getting attention from a number of Big 12 schools.
"He's pretty wide open," said A.J. Ofodile, Rome's high school coach. "I don't think he's opposed to the idea of staying home for school (at Missouri), but at the same time, that's not going to be a deciding factor at all. He's just going to take everything in from everyone."

Rome recently took in a quartet of Big 12 junior days, visiting the campuses of Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Kansas returning with list of positives about each program.

"There are different aspects he likes about all the different schools," Ofodile said. "He's a pretty positive guy. He likes to try to see himself at each of the programs and see where he would fit in. There have been some positive aspects of all the places he's visited so far.

"He liked Kansas State. He liked the fact that Coach Snyder is back. He's familiar with that resume and the legacy that Coach Snyder has. I think that seemed like a huge plus. That's something he talked a lot about. He talked a lot about what Coach Snyder meant for the program."

The Missouri-born defensive lineman, currently on spring break, will take unofficial visits to the campuses of Oklahoma, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia in the days ahead.

After completing what is essentially a barnstorming tour of unofficial trips, Rome will waste no time, as he hopes to make a verbal commitment as soon as possible.

"He is wanting to make a summer decision," Ofodile said. "Between now and the start of the season, he wants to have a choice made. He's trying to get as much info as possible before the season."

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Rome currently holds offers from K-State Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Kansas, South Carolina and Missouri.

Some douche from Columbia who signed with Nubb and isn't good at football?  Are we that desperate?  T's&P's if we are.

He already redshirted, though he arrived at NU in January. I don't know how that would work for his eligibility. After sitting the rest of this year would he have to sit all of next? I assume so. Would he have only 1 season left? I bet we could do some sort of wizardry to get him for 2 based on his early arrival and other junk.

I read the first couple of sentences of link 2 and immediately envisioned Bo's huge nose and red face staring this poor kid down.  Looks like he has a big upside and needs a program like ours to wash away the terrible memory of being in Lincoln.

Would he have 2 years left?  Did he redshirt at any point?

According to SD he redshirted in 2010 while arriving in January 2010.  That means his 5-year clock ends at the end of the 2014 season.  He would have to sit out 2013 as a transfer year and only be available to play for us the 2014 season.  Who knows where he will end up because very few coaches would be willing to waste a 2013 initial counter for one year in 2014.
