Against NU we had one of the most ridiculous defensive halves, giving up less than .6 points per possesion. This was the opposite, one of the most efficient offensive games for two teams in one game that I've ever seen, with both teams finishing at 1.3 PPP. The game ended up being a medium paced game at about 66 possessions, and both teams had great shooting days; KSU at 61.5% eFG% and ISU at 63% eFG%. KSU was consistent with 1.3 PPP in both halves. ISU was solid in the first at 1.2 PPP, but the 2nd half was an amazing 1.4 PPP.
TO% was even at 15.2%, the Cats gained an edge in OR% 35.3 to 18.2 and ISU had the edge in FTR 48.0 to 18.5, including a FTR of 68.0% in the 2nd half. To combine that FTR with better than 90% makes is really tough to beat; the Cats really were fortunate there.
I've come to expect grinders, but a game like this is much more of a rarity (like the NU game in Manhattan last year), but they do happen and it was nice to come out with the win. Again, you aren't going to see many games where both teams have 1.3 points per possession, that's just crazy offense.
