huggs v. frank
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:02:52 PM »
so there are like a bajillion difference between them and stuff but i'm curious if this is one or not...

it seems like huggins used to stress his current players future possible professional careers and frank seems to stress the fact that they are kids and that they should do stuff for the team and learn to be adults and that they are kids and stuff. prob a very dumb question but does it seem like this to anyone else and is this a difference between them and does it get basketball players to work harder for huggins because they think he cares about turning them into players that can make money in the futures and not so much for frank. thoughts? going to get killed on this... :frown:

Frank definitely coddles more than Huggins.  Did you see Huggins after he kicked his guy off the team?  "It's not like we lost Kevin Jones here".  Frank was all like, "OMG, we'll miss Freddy and we wish him all the best."

Also, in honor of @KU, I'm reminded of Huggs "The only place any of these guys will be playing after they graduate is the Y" quote after his game @KU.  Goddam that was awesome.

yeah. all that but frank treats them more as kids (at least to the media) and talks about how kids want to be lead and junk and hugs talked about jobs and where they would be playing once they left ksu. the "y" quote was great but i mean, don't all these guys think they can play nba or something type stuff? why talk about them being kids and needing to be lead then? it's coddling but in a very non sincere type way. at least to the players. dunno. losing has probably wore on me.

saying Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) stuff because you're mad isn't awesome.

but if you recruit guys that want to and think they are going to play basketball for a living and then you constantly talk to them about playing basketball for a living and what they need to do to make it happen and then talk to the media about them playing basketball for a living and why they aren't going to be able to do it based on recent play...

i'm probably being super weird about this but it kind of seems like all these players are adults and have ideas about making money playing after college and frank is talking about them needing to be "lead" and as a "team". seems more self serving on franks side. might come across like that anyway. dunno. kind bored. probably stupid to talk about but given how this season is going it's at least fun to talk about frank vs huggins differences. or not.

This. Might have been the best part of the Huggs era at K-State.
