K-STATE PULL-EN AWAY DESPITE NO KELLY AND LIMITED JAKE 12 hours ago Jake Pullen played just 14 total minutes. Curtis Kelly didn’t even suit up. Kansas State still beat a ranked Virginia Tech team by 16 points. ``The team got the job done,” Pullen said after scoring 13 points in the 73-57 victory. ``Guys like Will (Spradling) and Martavious (Irving) stepped up. They were anxious to prove to people that I wasn’t the only guy in the backcourt.” This is a deep team and there’s a reason the Wildcats were tabbed to win the Big 12. Pullen, sophomore Rodney McGrauder and Jamar Samuels each had 13 points, Jordan Henriquez-Roberts added 10 and eight boards and Irving chipped in nine. Spradling, an unheralded freshman, played 27 solid minutes – much of it running the team in place of Pullen. ``With us, we have a great team,” Pullen said. ``Guys don’t get mad if they don’t get their touches.” Or sit on the bench with foul trouble. ``It doesn’t bother me at all I wasn’t involved,” Pullen said. ``As long as my team is winning.” ``I don’t think I would have been like this a year or two ago,” Pullen said. ``I would have been mad at myself, but I’ve grown up and understand the main focus – which is to win. And to win you need other players.” This one also may have sent a message to Kelly – whose immaturity has been questioned throughout his career. ``It makes Curtis work harder,” Pullen said. ``Now he should see the opportunity in front of him and also the fact we have depth. He also understands now we can win without him.”
