Has "Octogon of Doom" jumped the shark?
« on: November 03, 2010, 12:06:37 AM »
Maybe I'm just too much of an underground lover of the  :doom: but when the OOD is so "commonplace" as a saying for every tv broadcast, has it gone too far?  :dunno:

Just sayin'

Its peak was when ONLY Gottlieb said it, and nobody else. Downhill ever since.

I think the phrase jumped the shark has clearly jumped the shark.
“They said something along the lines of ‘it kind of sounds like you’d be interested in it.’ And I said ‘hell yeah I am. Why not?’” -Doug Gottlieb

I agree. OOD and EMAW are no longer fun now that the shirt tucks and blue hairs are on board. goEMAW elite, please come up with something new and undergroundy that will make me feel like I'm in on the first floor of something special again. TIA

Actual its time to dive in while the pusies wet guys. We need official signage in the Doom like other schools with fan generated nicknames have done. I would love for a katpaked group of students/EMAW types would get on top of the OOD and put Doom on  the roof. Contact Google to get a new shot of the OOD from space and make the thing go viral.

I think it jumped the shark when Jim and Pam got together.
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

Guys, we went major label, but we are still cool.  Deal.  Also, continue to innovate.  Also continue to piss people off with goEMAW stuff on.

We'll be fine.  Just need to ride this wave out (so we can jump the shark from the crest).

KSU B-Ball is HUGE! :ksu:

This wasn't a good thing. Everyone is trying to make it look like SF started it and we are just getting in on it....

from an 810whb.com article. Should be the other way around.

To be fair, there is a Fear the Beard group (http://www.fearthebeard.org), originally formed to follow the Golden State Warriors.  This has been around a few years and before our Fear the Beard campaign last year.  Same group I think adopted/promoted the Giants once they get into the playoffs b/c its the same city.

They did acknowledge our use last year: http://www.fearthebeard.org/?p=3658

I had no idea this site existed when I made my design though, but I knew fear the beard wasn't some original phrase.

The lesson here should be: Nobody pays attention to non-regional happenings so when you start a saying in California people in Kansas are not stealing it if they use it.

Shoot them an email with a link to this acknowledgment of their originality as a sign of peace.

Then request that they support this year's KSU team as repentance for the way the Warriors crushed Mitch Richmond's NBA career.
